We asked how many of you own carbon monoxide alarms. Here's what you told us

The results of our survey earlier this week – and why you should get an alarm if you don’t have one.

THIS WEEK IS Carbon Monoxide Week and to highlight the dangers of ‘the silent killer’ we’ve been running a series informing our readers of the dangers of carbon monoxide. Earlier this week we ran a poll asking you if you had a carbon monoxide alarm in your house – or if not, if you were planning to get one – and here are the results.

How you voted:

TheJournal.ie TheJournal.ie

  • 64% said you already had one
  • 9% said you were going to get one
  • 26% said no

What you said:

Our readers who have carbon monoxide alarms were quick to sing the benefits, with some even telling us of lucky near misses they had thanks to having a carbon monoxide alarm. Reader Michael O’Reilly said:

And another reader, Hugh Sure, even suggested bringing one with you on holiday, just to be extra safe:

Carbon monoxide alarms are essential

Sixty-four per cent is a great number, but it definitely needs to be higher. If you’re wavering about getting one, here are a few quick facts about how important it is to protect yourself and your family against carbon monoxide.

  • Carbon monoxide is odourless, colourless and poisonous
  • You cannot detect carbon monoxide without an alarm
  • Tiredness, headaches, chest pains or muscular weakness can all be signs of carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Carbon monoxide is known as the ‘silent killer’

So have we convinced you to get a carbon monoxide alarm? Let us know in the comments below.

It’s Carbon Monoxide Week this week, so we’re helping to highlight its dangers. Carbon monoxide is impossible to detect without an alarm, so make sure you have one and check it regularly. Head over to CarbonMonoxide.ie to find out how to install alarms properly.

I saw David Byrnes American Utopia show twice live. Utterly sublime and maybe the best live show I’ve seen.
If the filmed version is half as good it should be a Stop making sense level treat.

I’m not a sceptic!! But every one of these poles that pop up about which film will you watch? The majority is always .. none of them… maybe it’s the calibre of films bring realeased, but being the week that it is, should the choice not be.. home alone, bad Santa etc??? Of is it just newly released movies?

I have finally given into the nagging and agreed to watch the crown. 2 episodes in and I’m bloody loving it. 38 more episodes to binge over Christmas.
