A three-year-old girl and four other people have been found inside a shipping container in Wexford

The migrants were found inside a unaccompanied container from Cherbourg on the Irish Ferries Oscar Wilde ship.

FIVE PEOPLE FOUND in a shipping container in Wexford on Sunday night have been taken to Dublin, Gardaí say.

The migrants, were discovered inside a container delivered to a Wexford transport company on Sunday evening.

The four adults and a three-year-old child were found inside an unaccompanied container which came from Cherbourg to Rosslare on the Irish Ferries Oscar Wilde ship.

The container was picked up by a haulage firm and brought to New Ross, where gardaí were contacted.

A Garda statement said:”Gardaí at New Ross are investigating the discovery of three males, one female and a minor which occurred at a transport company in Marshmeadows, New Ross, Co Wexford on Sunday at approximately 6pm.

All persons are now under the control of the Refugee Applications Commissioner.

The migrants – three men, one woman and her young girl – are believed to be Kurdish. They have told gardaí they were fleeing persecution and will be seeking asylum.

All five were in good health, gardaí say, and have been brought to Dublin, where they are being dealt with under immigration legislation. A three-year-old child was among the people found, they added.

Deportation

Last year the International Protection Act 2015 was enacted, giving An Garda Síochána increased powers of deportation.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald recently said, in answer to a Dáil question, that over 4,000 people were due to be deported from Ireland this year.

The 2014 Bill has also been criticised by migrant rights groups for eroded the rights to family unification.

“We need to step up our response to the humanitarian crisis, step up our resettlement scheme,” Edel McGinley of the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland told TheJournal.ie.

“When people have no alternative, they take extremely risky routes, and it’s very lucky that these five people didn’t die in the shipping container.

When we don’t have proper ways for people to access the State, for relocation, people will take risks with their lives.

“We need a lot more people on the ground, staff from the Government staff to resettle people across the country. Also, we also are not following any model of integration, when people are coming here.”

Oxygen deprivation

Last February, Gardai discovered nine men inside a container that was also delivered to New Ross.

It’s almost 15 years since eight people died in a freight container which arrived in Wexford. Two children were among those who died from oxygen deprivation in the container.

Last month, an International Refugee Council survey of European sentiment found that Ireland is the most sympathetic country towards the arrival of Syrian refugees.

Last year Ireland resettled 178 refugees, and would need to settle a total of 6,116 refugees or 1,223 annually to meet a target set by the IRC for European countries, based on GDP and population.

On 10 September 2015, the Government pledged to take up to 4,000 refugees through the Irish Refugee Protection Programme as part of the European response to the crisis.

Earlier this month, Minister Fitzgerald said that 550 refugees and asylum seekers have arrived so far in Ireland through the programme.

She added that 1,300 are scheduled to arrive in 2017, and that the Greek relocation programme is now fully operational.

I have to mention this: I have it recorded, Stop Search seize is a program on tv about Irish customs. I have this episode recorded but I don’t have the wherewithal to put it on you tube.
In the episode you see a woman from Africa casually strolling up to the customs official and hand in 5 passports, herself and her four kids. This was last year 2015.

The officer says to the woman, Are these your passports? She replies NO they are fake! Casual as hell she says they are counterfeit, The officer shows the passports clearly on camera that they are bright shiny new passports. The officer says they are South African passports, how did you get into South Africa? ( a save country ) she replies I jumped, I jumped the border!
She had gone into South Africa, got a plane to Dubai, and then to Dublin with 5 Dodgy passports. There were no more questions asked except the commentator on the programme says the woman is in luck because the immigration office is open on Burgh Quay so she will be accommodated in direct provision for asylum processing Immediately!!!!!

So this is how our immigration policy works! It’s utterly amazing to me. Especially when the woman are dressed top class, the camera constantly pans on the woman’s clothing and handbag also all the kids in brand new designer clothing. I repeat amazing this was last year, so I can only surmise it’s going on today. This woman will probably give her far fetched story to immigration ( rehearsed ) and be given asylum and a house for her 4 kids and wait for the hubby to arrive!

No wonder the country is messed up. We don’t look after our own but continually look after these immigrants.
I had to publish the above, if you saw the ease that an illegal got into this country you would be speechless like myself.

My wife and I and my 3 kids came back from France via Rosslare in our car in August and drove straight through customs with showing our passports. Oh and so did all the French, Dutch, German and Eastern European cars beside us.

Isn’t it interesting that Ireland is well prepared to break the rules when the powerful and wealthy need protecting such as the Apple tax dodgers? But when ordinary people need protecting then suddenly it’s “We must stick to the rules”

What exactly do these people need protection from? If living as a Kurd in Turkey is so difficult, why don’t they hop the border into Iraqi Kurdistan? Not only would it be almost culturally identical to Turkish Kurdistan but also quite safe given the sheer amount of weapons and training thrown their way by the US.

The homless crisis exists because the small rentier section of society gets very rich by keeping houisng as a scarece and expensive commodity. Ireland lacks none of the real resources (skilled labour, land, building materials etc) to provide everyone with a decent and affordable home. Let’s break the rules of this rotten system and build the houses that are required to meet the needs of the population.

The thing is Billy, that this is not a Kurdish land, and they have hopped their way from save countries top land in Ireland. If I am escaping war, and if I really have no intentions to emigrate in search of a better life (which is an economic migrant) but to just escape war and return as soon as is safe, then I’ll look for asylum in the first safe country I can land. Emergency’s can’t wait, if is a real emergency the would ask for asylum in South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, Botswana, Namibia, and if someone comes from Syria or Iraq, Then the closes safe countries are Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Armenia, Azerbayan, etc, etc.

Then they also don’t have to put up with bad weather and our infidel way of life, where women are considered equal and people like Rossanna Davison can pose naked. God help them to expose their children to our sacrilegious way of life.

    John Clark,
Fair enough, apology accepted. But programs like the one you described above are designed to drive a wedge between ordinary people. Don’t fall for it.

People are basically the same irrespective of where they come from. We all want to provide a decent home for our families, good food on the table, heat and light, healthcare and education for our children and to have a decent job. If people can obtain these basics then the vast majority are satisfied and will never leave their home place.

It is the brute exploitation of the capitalist system and the violence and misery that it drives which sends people searching desperately across the globe for safety and a better life.

This grossly exploitative system is preserved in large part by keeping the working class divided and fighting over the scraps so that we never look up and see who the real enemy is dining royally at our expense. That’s the real agenda behind programs like Stop Search Seize, Benefits St and a host of other poisonous bile designed to demonize outsiders and erect a siege mentality in the rest of us.

They set us at each others throats under a variety of guises including religion, nationality, gender, race, working vs unemployed, public vs private sector, etc etc etc as they understand perfectly that a united and organized working class means the end of their domination.

This is not the asylum system envisioned back in 1951. There are 65 million displaced people in the world and probably billions with a valid claim to asylum. By default, we ration access according to one criteria: whether or not you can get to Europe. Those who can are by definition not the most persecuted, poorest, most vulnerable, most in need of asylum. Our system is insane and unethical and it needs reform, yesterday.

As said since beginning of this capitalist mass-immigration cheap-labour scam, the most desperate are left scrambling and dying in the mud in Africa and Asia while the chancers and worst elements step on them and make it to Europe.

Not to mention it is not sustainable, eventually western countries will become as poor as some places in Africa and will no longer be able to help Africa. Interesting to see how the OpenBorderExtremist far-left are in bed with the OpenBorderExtremist Far-right on this.

There are girls in Africa who’ve been married off to some old man, gave birth, suffered from fistulas (tmi for anyone not familiar with childbirth – that means a fourth degree tear and double incontinence) and are now cast out to live on the edge of society. Those girls will never leave their village, let alone make their way to Ireland. Their rapist ‘husbands’, on the other hand, no problem. And the open borders extremists have the arrogance to claim the high moral ground.

It’s an abuse of the entire concept of refuge. And you do it because you know perfectly well that you cant win an argument for open borders on its own merits, so you use emotional manipulation about asylum instead.

@Ryan Carrol: Observe peoples reaction to their claim to be Kurdish. Idiot open border lefties like Billy do assume they’re telling the truth. In fact, they are of unknown identity, ages, origin and criminal records. Because they either destroy their ID papers or have false ones.

If people really grasped that darker skinned people can lie, Germany would have taken for granted that some jihadists would lie, claim to be refugees, then torture some people in the Bataclan. Ireland should not admit entry to anyone whose real identity, age, background and country of origin are unknown and unascertainable.

War criminals, genocide participants and people with serious criminal backgrounds are not entitled to asylum even under our 1950s legislation. Back in the real world of 2016, that determination needs to be made before we permit entry, not afterwards. Afterwards kind of defeats the entire purpose of that exemption.

Not least because deportation of unidentifiable, unlocatable people coming from failed states or states that refuse to accept them back, is a joke. Refusal of asylum stats are meaningless in the context of the failure of deportation.

He also visits his other wife in France for several weeks each year. A lot of these people are different to us and have different values to us. We can accept or reject other peoples cultures and ways of living.

IM so disappointed at the amount of backward thinking, numb-mindless, begrugging people on Journal,,,

These are “people” who have traveled from their own country under fear of death in most cases and left all their world behind,, lost relatives into filthy refugee camps where people live day to day and most have their seen death of close family members through war and criminality,,, where all we have to worry about is what stupid TV program pissed you off ,, or the choice of 161/171 car yoru gearing UP TO FLAUNT , or the price of drink ,, or some infantile minute financial worry you impose upon yourself because yoru all like sheep, hypnotized by the media !!!
