Jet skier rescued after riding out to island and getting stuck

Their craft sank during the incident yesterday.

A JET SKIER was rescued yesterday after they made their way out to an island and their craft sank, according to the Irish Coast Guard.

The incident happened at about 3.30pm when rescuers received a call about missing a jet skier off Howth harbour in north county Dublin.

The Irish Coast Guard team in Howth, the Coast Guard Rescue 116 Helicopter and the Howth RNLI lifeboats were all immediately tasked to the scene.

After 30 minutes of searching the water and coastline, the coast guard helicopter spotted the jet skier on the north of Ireland’s Eye with their jet ski submerged under water.

Ireland’s Eye is a small uninhabited island that’s located about a kilometre north of Howth harbour. The jet skier was stranded on the opposite side of the island from the harbour.

After the casualty was rescued they were taken back to shore to a waiting ambulance. The jet skier was wearing a life jacket and was not seriously injured.

Delighted that the person was rescued.
And that the infernal noise polluting machine found its way to the depths of the ocean.
    Good outcome all round.

Jet skiers – idiots of the boating world ! Have rescued more of these adrift in Dublin bay then any other craft ! Always someone with no formal training or understanding about how to take a vessel to sea

Glad it ended well, but they shouldn’t have gone out on their own.

@Ariana: I wouldnt have put put my dog out in that wind yesterday. It amazes my how people make decisions such as this. I saw a couple yesterday walking along the top of the prom wall at Clontarf. Whats wrong with the path?

Terryglass in Tipperary is a great spot to go jet skiing. Cruise over to Portumna for a couple of pints and back again before dark.

They’re not restricted by calendar dates and people have fun with them. Stop being so cynical, a person could have been lost here, thankfully that didn’t happen, he had a life jacket, someone obviously knew he was out there and well done to the emergency crew.
