A DRUNK DRIVER was arrested by gardaí in Limerick after cutting in front of a patrol car while holding a mobile phone yesterday evening.

The car had no tax or insurance and gardaí found empty alcohol bottles and cans in it.

A spokesperson from the Garda Press Office said the driver was a man in his 30s and the incident happened on Childers Road at 7.30pm yesterday.

Gardaí held a ‘Slow Down Day’ on Friday and continued to catch people speeding over the weekend.

One driver was caught doing 141km per hour in a 100km per hour zone at Bunratty in Co Clare on Friday and four other motorists were caught driving in excess of 130km per hour in the same zone.

Another driver was caught speeding at 153km per hour in Limerick.

Meanwhile, a bus driver in Galway was caught doing almost twice the legal speed limit – 96km per hour – in a 50km per hour zone.
