SNOW AND ICE have caused disruptions across Ireland today – even as Met Eireann has warned that the cold snap is set to continue overnight.
Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as -2 degrees Celsius tonight and more wintery showers have been forecast.
Many parts of Ireland woke up to snow and ice this morning as the extended cold snap has hit large parts of the country.
Met Éireann has said that tonight will be very cold and frosty again, with icy stretches on the roads. AA Roadwatch has warned drivers to take extra care while driving in icy conditions.
The bad weather has caused some disruption to Bus Éireann services in Cork.
All suburban and provincial services in the area are operating with delays, Bus Éireann has said.
A number of Irish Ferry sailings have been cancelled due to the bad weather.
Dublin Swift sailings from Dublin to Holyhead and Holyhead to Dublin have been cancelled today, but Irish Ferries says all other sailings are expected to operate as normal.
AA Roadwatch has warned drivers that stopping distances are 10 times longer in snow and ice.
Drivers are advised to allow plenty of time to de-ice their car and to allow for traffic delays.
AA Roadwatch has also advised drivers to apply brakes gently, reduce speed when driving downhill and to use gentle manoeuvres when driving.
Wintry showers are forecast to be heaviest over Connacht and Ulster today.

With several prior convictions for theft in Holland and Norway, how or why was he ever allowed into Ireland? Seriously searching for an answer to this simple question.
