Ireland issued a record number of European arrest warrants last year

Some 379 persons have been surrendered to Ireland since 2004.

IRELAND ISSUED 92 European arrest warrant requests in 2015, the highest number ever transmitted, and over five times the 18 issued in 2004.

Overall, Ireland transmitted 649 European arrest warrants to other European member states since 2004.

Of those, 103 were still ongoing on 1 January 2015.

Since 2004, 1,113 surrender orders have been executed to EU member states. Some 379 persons have been surrendered to Ireland since the European Arrest Warrant Act came into operation on 1 January 2004.

Last year 91 orders were surrendered in total.

Over half (47) were from Poland, 21 were from the UK and eight were from Lithuania.

Four were from the Czech Republic, three from Romania, the Netherlands and Latvia surrendered two each, while there was one each from Croatia, France, Germany and Hungary.

Of the 79 warrants issued in 2014, 56 were surrendered. Some 39 came from the UK, three came from the Netherlands and two came from Poland, Czech Republic, France and Portugal.

One each came from Spain, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Cyprus and Bulgaria.

    Been working in shannon since 2006 and in my opinion that is the only difference it is making the news when before it didn’t

    With 3000+ aircraft in the air at any given time you can be sure that a handful of pilots are dealing with issues from unruly passengers, to ill passengers, poor weather, tech issues, faulty cockpit alerts; all of which can lead to a diversion or declared emergency. I made the point on a separate thread RE the 787 diversion to Shannon this week, that if every news agency were to report every aviation incident then there would be little space left for other local and international news.
