Enda's diplomatic mission: Taoiseach to pledge 'government support' for Pope's visit to Ireland

The Taoiseach is set to meet Pope Francis in The Vatican on Monday morning.

TAOISEACH ENDA KENNY is set to meet Pope Francis in the Vatican next week, where he will personally express his support for the Pope’s proposed visit to Ireland.

Irish Catholic Bishops have extended an invitation to the pontiff last month to visit Ireland to attend the World Meeting of Families in Dublin in 2018.

The invitation was officially acknowledged by the Papal Nuncio to Ireland Charles Brown who conveyed the “gratitude of Pope Francis” in return and assured the archbishops that it would be “given careful consideration”.

This is not the first time that the Pope has been invited to visit Ireland. Cardinal Sean Brady issued an invitation to Pope Francis in 2013 and, prior to his retirement, Pope Benedict XVI was said to have been considering an offer to come to Ireland.

The Taoiseach has requested this meeting with Pope Francis following the bishop’s invite, and the pair will meet at the Apostolic Palace in The Vatican at 10am on Monday morning.

A Government statement said: “The Taoiseach will also take the opportunity to personally welcome the decision by Pope Francis to hold the World Meeting of Families in Dublin in August 2018.

“He will express the full support of the Government for the invitation by the Irish Bishops Conference [...] and assure the Pope that the normal state courtesies and support will be extended to him  if he decides to come to Ireland.”

The pair are also set to discuss issues such as bilateral relations, developments in the European Union and migration at the meeting on Monday.

Since his election to the title in 2013, Pope Francis has visited countries such as Cuba, Brazil and the US, while also visiting the Middle East.

If Pope Francis comes to Ireland in 2018, it will be the first papal visit to Ireland in almost 40 years, since Pope John Paul II’s visit in 1979.

Dear children. I forgive you for your period of teenage rebellion against your loving carers. Rebellion is part of growing up and means that you are growing in age and maturity. We welcome the sentiment but not the behaviour. Like any neglectful abusive parent, we will not admit our fault, but justify ourselves by explaining that we used the best tools available to us at the time to discipline and punish you where guilt was lacking the necessary motivation to love us. We raised you from beggars and savages in the gutter to the pimply awkward teenager you are today. You look respectable, at least, like an idiot in a suit. That was down to us. Come back to us now and we will come back on you, as always was the way. I forgive you, Ireland.

It’s not like gays in a village or Highlanders, there can be more than one. Yes, it does seem incredible, grotesque and scary, but look at all the other guff they believe. Seriously, can you imagine a talking snake?

I guess I hoped as adults they wouldn’t be so susceptible to their faith literally being made up on the spot by a guy in an office looking at a balance sheet!

This is more about the return of FF, bishops have a voice again in government. Its the price of having church gate collections for political parties tax free I believe. first the bishops make the invitation but who should pay for the visit. Now that Kenny has invited the pope its a state visit and the cost will be met by the taxpayer. We have heading back to the dark ages when FF allowed the clergy sell children to rich Americans and rape slaves in their workhouses. Its our future under a FF lead government where cannon law rumps common law and everything considered immoral by a religious cult is banned. women bodies become church property and equality is seen as a sin against god himself. Mostly we try and stop preachers coming to our island to spread the message that women are sub human but not in this case.

Lick, lick, lick — Is there anything Enda won’t do to browntongue the leader of a sickening religious cult that still owes the Irish taxpayer hundreds of millions of euro as its share of the compensation fund for victims of rapist priests, the Magdalene Laundries slavery and human trafficking centres, the “Industrial Schools” gulag, and so many other crimes.

There is nothing to stop the Protector Of Paedophiles Ecclesiastical coming to Ireland, but he shouldn’t expect to be fawned on by those of us who want his cult and its influences on education and health out of our lives for good.

Pope Frank seems to be a nice guy but the multinational Corp he represents is intrinsically evil. I would only agree to his visit as CEO of that company if firstly the government and constitution gives women their own bodies back and then we get to impound all the schools due to the default on abuse payments. After that he can get his pint and photo op like any other tourist.

You know where you can shove your pity

Being seen in the presence of that arch-phoney and major denier of human rights is in itself an awful lot more shameful than answering a mobile phone. A Taoiseach is there to look after his country’s interests, not act as sycophant-in-chief to the head of a religious cult.

Looks like an Enda U turn. It’s a great country that welcomed with open arms Nazi war criminals in the late 1940s but refused help to Jewish children that survived the death camps just look at Oliver J Flanagan’s (Charlie’s late father) attitude to Jewish immigrants. The Catholic Church has had way too much influence on Irish society.
