Pictures: How 23 students brought the Jungle Book to life for the Toy Show this year

Students at IADT spent 10 weeks bringing the designs to life in time for the Toy Show.

BROUGHT SO VIVIDLY to life during the Late Late Toy Show last night, some of the incredible costumes and animals seen were the result of over 10 weeks of hard work from 23 students at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

The students were able to create a 3 metre high elephant, two baby elephants, two mobile jungle trees, a 15 metre long flexible snake, and wearable tiger and panther costumes.

Aidan Fox, a 2nd year student in IADT, told TheJournal.ie that he and his colleagues were given the task to create the designs in September.

“We had to design everything from scratch,” he said. “After coming up with the designs, we’re after spending seven to eight weeks building it all. Once we were finished up, we had to move everything over to RTÉ for rehearsals this week.”

Fox added that the hard work was not over until the curtain rolled on this year’s Toy Show, as several students performed at the show as well.

“We’re all very excited. I grew up watching the Toy Show, so it’s a bit of a childhood dream being here at it tonight,” he said.

It’s not a prediction if it has already happened.

Dan While I get where your coming from. Our prison system here tends to imitate the english prison system. My guess on it is the privatisation of the english jails with the staff been underpaid and generaly not giving a fook as a result.
