ISIS suicide bomber kills 35 Yemeni troops

Yemeni authorities have for months pressed a campaign against jihadists.

A SUICIDE BOMBER has killed 35 soldiers and wounded around 50 at a military camp in Yemen’s southern city of Aden, military and medical sources said.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The bomber detonated his explosives belt as hundreds of troops gathered to receive their monthly pay at the barracks in Al-Sawlaban near the city’s international airport, a military source said.

“A martyr from the Islamic State denotated his explosives belt in Al-Sawlaban military camp in Aden during a gathering of the Yemeni army,” the IS-affiliated Amaq news outlet said.

Yemeni authorities have for months pressed a campaign against jihadists who remain active in the south and east of the war-torn country.

IS and its jihadist rival Al-Qaeda have taken advantage of a conflict between the government and the Huthi rebels, who control the capital Sanaa, to bolster their presence across much of the south.

The two groups have carried out a spate of attacks in Aden, Yemen’s second city and headquarters of the internationally recognised government whose forces retook the port from the Huthis last year.

Al-Qaeda has long been the dominant jihadist force in Yemen, located next to oil-flush Saudi Arabia and key shipping lanes, but experts say IS is seeking to supplant its extremist rival.

In August an IS militant rammed his explosives-laden car into an army recruiting centre in Aden, killing 71 people in the deadliest jihadist attack on the city in over a year.

On Monday, Yemeni authorities arrested eight suspected IS jihadists implicated in a spate of attacks targeting security personnel in the city this year.

A Saudi-led coalition has since March 2015 supported loyalist forces fighting the Huthis.

Ironic here is that the US and UK are arming and supporting Saudi Arabia while they are in turn funding and supporting ISIS Al – Qaeda, or whatever they call themselves this week. Once again, as in Syria, indirectly supporting Jihadist mercenaries.
“Media Silent As US-Backed Saudi Forces Starve Half Million Yemeni Children
The United Nations warned that 8,000 children could suffer from severe malnutrition in 2016. And that’s just in one southern Yemeni city.
ADEN, Yemen — While the media was flooded with images of the starving children of Syria, the thousands of children suffering from Saudi Arabia’s U.S.-backed onslaught on Yemen made far fewer headlines.”

@Pat O’Dwyer: Yemen UN Warns US Saudi War Threatens Mass Starvation in Yemen.
United Nations aid agencies warned Friday that Yemen, after 18 months of savage bombardment in a US-backed war waged by Saudi Arabia and its fellow oil monarchies, is facing a catastrophic crisis threatening mass starvation.
More than 10,000 people have been killed since the Saudi regime began its bombing campaign in March 2015. Millions more have been displaced, and urban areas and essential infrastructure have been reduced to rubble.

@Pat O’Dwyer: The UK and US may be guilty of war crimes because of their complicity in Yemeni genocide.
Crimes against Humanity: Britain’s Complicity In Saudi Arabia’s Terror Campaign Against Yemen.
The ‘mainstream’ Western media is, almost by definition, the last place to consult for honest reporting of Western crimes. Consider the appalling case of Yemen which is consumed by war and an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.
Since March 2015, a ‘coalition’ of Sunni Arab states led by Saudi Arabia, and supported by the US, Britain and France, has been dropping bombs on neighbouring Yemen. The scale of the bombing is indicated in a recent article by Felicity Arbuthnot – in one year, 330,000 homes, 648 mosques, 630 schools and institutes, and 250 health facilities were destroyed or damaged. The stated aim of Saudi Arabia’s devastating assault on Yemen is to reinstate the Yemeni president, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and to hold back Houthi rebels who are allied with the former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh. The Saudis assert that the Houthis, who control Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, are ‘proxies’ for Iran: always a convenient propaganda claim to elicit Western backing and ‘justify’ intervention.
Philip Hammond, who was UK defence secretary when the Saudi bombing began in 2015, promised:
‘We’ll support the Saudis in every practical way short of engaging in combat.’

@Padraig: ISIS were born from the disenfranchised secular Baath Party in Iraq, made up mainly of former government officials and army personnel, Saddam loyalists, who were shunned when the US administration formed the Iraqi government, now they’re murdering innocent Muslims in Yemen, Syria and Iraq.

ISIS is armed by the abandonment of arms by the Iraqi army and by the US, France and the U.K. Channelling massive weaponry through Eastern Europe so as to arm dissidents against certain Middle East regimes. The invasion of Iraq started the process and conditions which eventually led to the emergence of ISIS or Daesh.

Iraq had an established army, the Us and Uk go and win the war, hang Saddam and defeat a trained army, here many countries fighting together to defeat this untrained terrorist group but can’t defeat. Why, go figure?
