A 10-YEAR-OLD girl died after falling ill aboard a transatlantic flight diverted to Shannon Airport.
Air Canada says that Toronto to London flight AC868 was diverted to the Co. Clare airport after the child suffered a medical problem.
A doctor and nurse were on board the plane and helped the flight crew to assist the child before it landed in Ireland yesterday evening.
Emergency crews met the aircraft when it landed and the child was taken to University Hospital Limerick where she was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out on the child.
Neither Air Canada nor the Canadian government could immediately confirm the girl’s nationality.
