When will the government finally wake up and realise driving is a life skill that needs to be done when kids are at least 13. So many restrictions on learner drivers at the moment makes it impossible for them to learn how to use the roads properly.

@jenni: I agree, and everyone over age 55 should only be allowed take public transport. Age is a big factor in most crashes.

@jenni: that is why they are meant to have a fully licenced driver with them for a certain lenght of time until they get their experience on the roads

Mortality and insurance figures would certainly not agree. Young drivers are vastly more dangerous. Studies have shown that 80 year old drivers are much safer due to experience even if they have hearing and visual problems. Brains learn by doing not by learning.

@Martin Conroy do you not read the whole articles??? In most cases the crashes involve people who at under forty are young. Not fifty five and under.

I think driving at 17 is way to young.. There are to many deaths on our roads.. at 17 you think you know it all. And I also believe what a starter driver should not be allowed to drive anything over 1.0 cc . For at least 4 years

Don’t think the age is the issue more likely types of vehicle you can drive.
It should be the engine size is limited to to your age .
Farmers can drive tractors on the road at sixteen and I have yet to hear of an incident with a young driver in a tractor where speed was to blame.
