Community collects enough money to carry the cost of Reece Cullen's funeral

Reece Cullen was stabbed to death last Thursday.

OVER €1,000 HAS been donated to cover the cost of Tallaght stabbing victim Reece Cullen’s funeral following an online appeal.

The teenager was stabbed to death in a house in Kilclare Crescent in the Jobstown area on

In the space of two days, €1,100 had been collected, more than the target that was set. A teenage boy was arrested by gardaí in the aftermath of the stabbing. He has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP. He presented himself to Tallaght garda station and was in the company of his mother at the time.

It is believed Cullen was stabbed in the chest following a dispute at the house. He had lost his mother to suicide in September and was finding it difficult to cope, according to locals.

Collection

Gardaí are now searching for another teenager they believe to have been involved in the fatal stabbing. They are investigating whether Cullen’s death was due to a local dispute between two groups of teenagers.

Cullen had also received a number of threats prior to his death and the two groups of teens had clashed a number of times over the past three months. Reece will be buried on Wednesday.

The donation page can be found here.

If you have any information about the incident, contact Tallaght garda station on 01 666 6000, the garda confidential line at 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Send the bill for the funeral to the scrotes family who murdered the poor fella.. That might make parents think twice about letting their kids run riot through housing estates up and down the Country..

Where’s the minister for social protection now?

Amazing to think the last minster caused a year long media frenzy being caught in a protest and the put to use hundreds of Guarda resources trying to jail protestors yet just 1 year on , the murder of a youth less than a mile away from protest site gets little or no coverage at all.
It speak volumes about the role of the media and political priorities.

Absolute rubbish. Ask anyone up in the area, within an hour of this happening the gardaí had identified the suspect and were searching his house, they’ve searched the area, gone through CCTV and knocked on every door in the estate. They’ve questioned the suspect extensively and they’ll put a file together on it; if you know better about murder investigation I’d like to hear it. This murder has been covered by every newspaper, website and tv station; it’s been mentioned every day since it happened.

I’m not taking anything away from the good work being done by the guards who are completely under resourced,
I’m saying that a lot more could be done by higher powers to try and improve the situation in lots of areas of tallaght and further a field.

You can’t deny Joan’s case was completely OTT, it’s always surprising how unlimited resources can be found in certain circumstances for certain people and not for others.

    It shouldn’t be that way.

You’re implying that more effort was put into the Jobstown case than is being put into this murder, without offering any proof to back it up. Please tell us how many gardaí were involved in each case.

The journal doesn’t allow such detailed debate but it’s not hard to work out.
The case above has had 1 arrest
The Burton case had several so it stands to reason that the Burton case had more resources allocated than the one above.

    Pay attention at the back.

You weren’t basing your assertion on the number of arrests and well you know it; you’re trying to make this political. This case had one arrest because there was one suspect; had there been more suspects there would have been more arrests. Gardaí and this case established an incident room in Tallaght garda station, they brought in a divisonal search team, divisonal crime scene examiners, the national technical bureau and gardaí from other stations. They searched two designated scenes and all the space between them, recovering evidence and the murder weapon in the process. They’ve knocked on every door in the area, checked cctv and taken statements. In short, they have spared no effort to solve crime; yet you have the neck to try to turn it into a political football & claim that more effort was put into Joan Bruton’s incident; you’re a clown.

That last statement says more about your mental capacity than it does mine.
It also say a lot about a persons character who hides behind an alias such as your own.

I’m a native of west tallaght , went to school there through the 80′s and happily live here still.
I know plenty about the lack of resources over the years and I am more than qualified to comment on the lack political courage to tackle the problems that exist not just in west tallaght but all over Dublin and no doubt other counties.

These problems have been created by politicians, the like of EK and JB have been in the dail for many years so it’s only fair we apportion some of the blame on them.

You can always trust honest and hardworking people to tell it like it is.

And that’s exactly is how it is.
