Major delays after four car crash on main Dublin commuter route

Fire and Garda traffic services attended the scene of the crash this morning.

A FOUR CAR crash on the N4 at Lucan is causing hour-long tailbacks and heavy delays this morning.

The crash took place opposite the Texaco petrol station in Lucan inbound on the N4.

Fire and Garda traffic services attended the scene this morning, and minor injuries were reported.

The crash has resulted in serious traffic delays coming onto the M50 from Maynooth in Kildare.

AA Roadwatch say that it is taking over an hour for vehicles to travel from Junction 7 Maynooth to the M50 Interchange.

The crash has been moved to the bus lane after Junction 3 Lucan.

Traffic remains heavy on all routes going through Lucan, as well as on the Maynooth and Clane roads into Celbridge.

@tuco: FF have been in trouble for a while now. I know this, you know this and it seems everyone but those in FF know this. By contemplating refusing the members a vote on entering Government Martin lost the support of the rank and file. If you were a member, would you canvass for them at future elections in light of this?

@tuco: the cracks have been getting bigger and bigger over the years. MM has to be one of their worst leaders in living memory. Nobody, including himself knows what he really stands for and trying to enter gov with FG, he should have resigned straight after the elections if he had an ounce of decency or self respect.

0% is insane, it means the burden to cover the massive deficit from this thing won’t be shared.

Every industry needs help, but equally every industry must play its part and pay tax.

If we decide loads won’t pay tax it means others will have to pay more or even more services will need to be cut to cover the shortfall.

Like it or not there are hard times coming, it won’t matter which party is in government as unpopular decisions will need to be made.

@Barry: while you are correct the way you have framed it, this could easily be done if other budgets are cut.

Direct foreign aid payments should be reduced dramatically and public expenditure cut across the board by a small percentage.

Yes, this is austerity, but instead of risking many service industry businesses going bust and thus prolonging austerity, we should make the right moves now.

Why can’t the businesses apply for VAT reimbursement if they can show their revenues have fallen from all of this? Instead of a cut to 0%.

@Barry: typical Irish government stance on VAT. Were all goody two shoes EU citizens when it suits them. They don’t have any issue with screwing us on VRT though and won’t adopt an EU citizen position there. And to say we can’t nullify VAT is BS. All they have to do is collect and give an equivalent rebate of the same amount. We might “have” to charge it…..but no one says we can’t give it back….

The old vintners have great lobbying power. Last time they whinge, the vat was reduced but the prices stayed the same. And the money stolen from the savings of pensioners was never repaid.
So where will the minister go to find the money this time? Steal more savings from old people, or maybe reduce the dole?

We are seeing it more and more with the Leaving Cert, tourism, COVID testing etc. It’s much easier to organise a task force and then no one is to blame. Until the permanent government are made accountable then it doesn’t matter who is elected to office.

The tourism industry in Ireland has been in trouble way before this pandemic. We don’t go see our own world class relics, it’s not even considered, the carpark in places out price theme park entry elsewhere.
All take and no give, at Tintagnel in Cornwall there’s a Piper that jump’s out of the bushes and sings songs about king Arthur. No entry or parking fees, all paid for by their tourism board and that’s in the arse end of nowhere.
As for camping, France and the UK put us in the shade, showers and swimming pools are standard. There’s just not enough investment, perhaps it’s too late.
Btw if it is too late a new breed will come along and build on the ashes, protecting failure didn’t work in ’08 and it won’t work now.

@Cormac Laffan: i do quite a bit of travelling along the W.A.W. with my kids ( wife works most weekends so we head off ) and the lack of decent facilities in some places is shocking. Take the beach at Dogs Bay near Roundstone, no toilets for miles around. I have made a toilet out of a bucket and toilet seat so i come prepared but plenty don’t and Dog’s Bay is the tip of the Iceberg. I have camped all over Australia and the camp grounds are second to none. Toilets, showers, push button bbq’s and all working perfect and these are in remote areas. Those kind of facilities are few and far between here.
I honestly feel that if we had better facilities and not as much as a rip off culture far more people would holiday at home.

@Derek Lyster: your spot on boy if prices were affordable for everything with no parking charges into venues and attractions Ireland would be a great country to visit, for instance 70,000 motorhome owners across Europe and only a pin head amount of them will ever come to Ireland to holiday and the reason is rip off prices from the ferry operators to paying for parking everywhere you go to ridiculous charges by campsites with little or no facility’s compared to what people pay in Europe for campsites with swimming pools, jacuzzis, hot tubs, heated sanitary and shower blocks etc. Then you have the hated iron barrior preventing access to most carparks and every viewing point that visitors want to stop at to photograph and enjoy the scenery.
