Around 7,000 homes without electricity after storm damage

Heavy winds last night and early this morning caused a power cut to around 15,000 households.

THOUSANDS OF HOMES are experiencing power cuts today after overnight winds brought down power lines and disrupted services.

Counties Sligo, Cavan and Donegal have been worst affected by the outages.

About 15,000 households were affected at the height of the problem this morning.

The ESB says that all of its emergency teams are working to restore power to the affected areas and that around 7,000 households remain without power this afternoon.

A spokesperson for the company told TheJournal.ie this afternoon that it hopes to restore power to the homes by nightfall today.

Anyone who discovers a fallen electricity line is advised to avoid the line and to contact the ESB immediately to report it. The ESB’s emergency contact line is 1850 372 999.

Conditions are expected to remain stormy throughout today, according to Met Éireann, with strong westerly winds reaching gusts of up to 125 km per hour.

Have to give ESB the thumbs up.
As long as I can remember their servive to the public has been remarkable.
Their effort under sometimes extreme conditions is exemplary.
    Keep up the good work.
