Trump has ordered the withdrawal of the US from the controversial TPP trade deal

He has also signed an order limiting funding of foreign organisations backing abortion.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP has just signed a memo withdrawing the US from the controversial trade deal known as the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

In the past hour, the new US leader signed a number of documents which will also see a federal government hiring freeze and an order limiting funding of foreign NGOs backing abortion.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership was a trade agreement among twelve of the Pacific Rim countries designed to boost trade in the region.

The 70-year-old property tycoon had outlined a list of priorities for his first 100 days and executive actions to be taken “on day one”, on half a dozen issues from trade to immigration, national security and ethics, in a push to “reform Washington and rebuild our middle class”.

“My agenda will be based on a simple core principle: putting America first,” said the president, whose victorious campaign tapped the anger of working-class Americans who feel left behind by globalisation, singling out trade deals such as the TPP as key culprits.

“On trade, I am going to issue our notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a potential disaster for our country,” said Trump in a video message prior to his inauguration.

Scuttle TTIP next please. Any so called trade agreement under that level of secrecy can be nothing but terrible for those citizens affected.

The range of executive actions ministers can take under Ministerial order is a low narrower – hence our need to do most things by consensus, hence time taken to get anything done… Executive ability in US has its limits – the Donald will likely run out of steam for any legislation that he may need to get through Congress / Senate.

@Bhiniáimin Ó Beith: They censored me on inauguration morning;. A week before I logged in while in bed with a cuppa at 6am. I saw a tread which I decided not to bother commenting on. I saw a post which had 20 thumbs down and 33 thumps up. I decided to give a thumbs up and clicked the tab. The pointer jumped to thumbs down, but I did not click and tried about 4 times more to thumbs up. Each time the pointer jumped to thumbs down. So I posted to the commentator and logged off. A hour later the poster commented that his thumbs were been altered. Next I saw was that the thumbs were re-set to zero and it worked OK after that.

The next thing I knew was my comments would not post, they were deleted completely. I was drunk watching the inauguration as I ha friends round for the event. Next day my posts were back to normal.

This all proved the administration are rigging the posts.

Not really a indicator as TPP was never ratified.
Would like to see how he will renegotiate NAFTA specially as this was a Rep baby more so than a Dems baby. Also would like to see how he is gonna compete with countries like India and China on manufacturing. Doubt American citizens will work for 2 cents an hour or pay 60 bucks for a pair of socks.

I presume Richard Boyd Barrett and Luke Ming are applauding Trump. This time last year they wanted TPP ended. Its a bad deal, and if I made a product and a company claim patent rights, they can sue me in a TPP court and not an Irish court or the court of sale of the product. I could not represent myself as a lay litigant, I would have to hire a lawyer and they were set to make a fortune

Wonderful news re Abortion, this might go someway to limiting the genocide that is abortion and the lie that it has anything to do with woman’s rights. Woman pay the greatest price with liberal abortion rights. It is estimated that 160 million woman are missing from the worlds population due to gendercide. Abortion creates an economic incentive to kill a human life, nothing to do with rights at all. Latte Liberals refuse to engage in any debate on the issue. Trump is a disaster for the world, but on this issue he is right.

If he wants jobs back to US and wants to give us all wake up call he could band all trade with the far east as most are working in conditions that we know exist but turn a blind eye to, we stoped taking goods from south Africa not saying it was not bad, but what we support every day is a much much worse.

He could tell big corporations there’s makeing a profit and what they doing now which is no different than the days of slavery, must end it.

That the price we pay for goods is that, cause it made on the back of modern day slavery.

That if we want to live in a just world companies must reduce their profits and we must expect to pay more.

One thing is certain. Trump has a selfish angle and a self interested commercial advantage in rejecting TPP.

As far as Trump is concerned, he is the US and the US is Trump. His self interest is indistinguishable from the national interest.

Like any deal, some international trade deals are fairer and better than others. The TTIP is a bad deal for Europe so should not be ratified, the TPP was a massive opportunity for the USA to gain back some ground on China and they’ve just blown it.

With every trade deal the US pulls out of, the Chinese will be purring over. Free Trade Agreements not only massively grow cross border trade, another key aspect is the validation and respect of Intellectual property from your trade partner. The Chinese are the worst culprits for intellectual property theft. On top of this, their own indigenous research and development in Engineering and IT has blossomed phenomenally over the last decade. A simple example of this down the line would be, Huawei making on-par or better hand sets than Apple at a much lower manufacturing cost base. Add to this import tariffs and your looking at the superior Huawei is now 40% cheaper, than it’s comparable Apple product in say New Zealand. Exports from the USA are going to shrink with every FTA they pull out of and the Chinese swoop in on.
The Chinese are being very quiet during this whole presidential fiasco, not out of fear, but out of planning the serious opportunities that lie ahead for them. Little doubt they will try swoop on the TPP (not the TTIP, please know the difference), provided they can negotiate some of their differences with Japan. This will give them free trade with Canada and Mexico, completely nullifying the advantages of the NAFTA for the USA and hurting US manufacturing and IT sales woefully. Jobs lost, lights out.

Are these countries using my comments on The Journal for economic planning or simple common sense in relation to evolving and progressive 21st century trade? I think we need alternative facts to really get to the bottom of this. Australia and New Zealand to pursue ‘TPP 12 minus one’ – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-38725807

Gutting TPP is a massive geopolitical blunder for America. TPP will limp on without the states and China will swoop in and set the terms. The US has just given away the ability to set the rules for Asian economics for decades. Such a stupid move, it only makes China stronger and even more competitive. They’re probably popping champagne in Beijing.
