The occupants of the second car were seriously injured.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a car crash in Rush, Co Dublin, in which a man (35) died last night.

The two-car collision occurred on the Skerries Road near the intersection with St Catherine’s estate at approximately 11.30pm.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene. The male driver, who was the sole occupant of one car, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to the mortuary at James Connolly Memorial Hospital.

The three occupants of the second car – a 24-year-old woman and two men, aged 28 and 45 – were injured and taken to Beaumont and James Connolly Memorial hospitals, and their conditions are described serious but non-life threatening.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them at Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 8020510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Not speculation . 80% of fatal car crashes involved a speed factor in 2015 . Car don’t crash ,drivers do

That’s a narrow, badly lit and busy road, I travelled it last night half an hour before the accident. This unfortunate victim could have been me, or any of us.

@John Mulligan: But if you know that it is a narrow, badly lit, and busy road, then one would assume that the people who drive on it, drive according to the conditions, but sadly no-one is enforcing the rules of the road, add to that the fact that a shed load of cars are driving around without their lights on, or with just one working headlight, and then it’s no wonder that the death toll on Irish roads is so high.

Very sad for the family concerned leaving behind a young family. May he R.I.P

I drive that road every morning and it can lethal. It is well lit in places but in wet weather a lot of water lies by the side of the road. The other thing people dont factor in is the mud on the roads. This is a farming community and sometimes the road can have mud on it especially when its wet. You dont need to be speeding to skid if you hit mud, it is as dangerous as ice.

It is a road where people are inclined to speed and while there are checkpoints regularly up near Loughshinny I feel since Rush lost its Garda station speed has become a bigger problem in the area. The speed van does be parked on the main street doing the fish in a bowl job. A visable garda presence is needed to deal with the cars with speed which is a problem and cars with only 1 light.

Theres usually a large pool of water across the road at the bottom of the hill coming by St Catherines, in bad weather, very easy to hit at speed an aquaplane if you arent aware of it, series of dangerous bends immediately after it too heading to rush there have been a number of accidents along this stretch over the years. RIP
