THE UNITED STATES slapped fresh sanctions on Iran today to punish them for recent ballistic missile tests and its support for Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
The first sanctions against Iran by the Trump administration targeted companies and individuals identified by the United States as supporting Tehran’s ballistic missile program and the Revolutionary Guards military force.
“Iran’s continued support for terrorism and development of its ballistic missile program poses a threat to the region, to our partners worldwide, and to the United States,” said John Smith, acting director of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
The measures came after the Middle Eastern nation on test-fired a medium range missile on Sunday, which the White House contends violated a UN Security Council resolution proscribing missiles that could carry a nuclear device.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor Michael Flynn declared he was “officially putting Iran on notice” over the launch.
Blacklisted
The newest sanctions seek to lock those blacklisted out of global trade and finance by banning any American or US-based entities from doing business with them. They named three trading networks and individuals allegedly involved in supplying goods to Iran’s missile program.
One against already-sanctioned Iranian businessman Abdollah Asgharzadeh involves several Chinese companies and suppliers, mainly the Cosailing Business Trading Company based in Qingdao.
Other groups named include the Rostanian network based in the Gulf region, and Lebanon-based Hasan Dehghan Ebrahimi, identified as a Revolutionary Guards official whose business the Treasury said launders money and goods for the Hezbollah militia group.

All oil is traded globally in US dollars. The only two guys who went against the US decided to stop selling oil in US dollars were Saddam Hussain and Mummar Gaddafi.
Funny enough those two guys are now dead! Both countries were bombed and destroyed by the US!

Get off your high horse and realise that the vast majority of people in this world are just that… People! @Ian: Israel feels threatened by Iran in the region. America is just doing their bidding again. 4 out of the 7 countries on the banned list are shia governed or have significant shia populations. Clinton would have pandered to that directive too. All US governments do. I wonder will Iran retaliate by canceling its huge Boeing order. Bad move Trump. Lotsa money for made in America retreating.

There is no replacement for the jobs lost. This will mean we will move from being middle class anti Trump campaigners to very poor unemployed anti Trump campaigners.

The US is acting as a stalking horse for Russia in dealing with Iran. Iran and Russia have had a very uneasy relationship. There have been temporary periods of quasi rapprochement but Russia wants Iran controlled. Trump is obliging Putin.
As a secondary aspect, Iran is extremely hostile to Israel and Trump supports Israel.
The difficulty is that Iranians are very proud and highly defensive. Iran may over react, not understanding that this is all just a Trump game.
So to answer my previous question, It was 2 articles until the journal mentioned Trump again….
I think we could start taking bets on it soon

‘Putting Iran on official notice’ is straight out of the Obama playbook, which then looked the other way while Iran broke UN agreements on missile testing. Trump’s administration is getting the message across that these are different times and any efforts to create further instability in the Middle East will not be tolerated.
The only reason the Iranian regime has created nuclear capability is the goal of destroying Israel.
Remember the idealism of the Green revolution in 2009 when Iranian students took to the streets in the hope of freedom only to be gunned down in the streets of Tehran?

And U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis today issued an explicit warning to North Korea, saying that any use of nuclear weapons on the U.S. or allies would be met with an “effective and overwhelming” response.

I think it would be a better contribution to world peace and stability if the US disposed of the savage regime in Saudi. However it looks like all US presidents and governments are owned by them one way or another.

Iran does not have a nuclear capability and has no ambitions to have one, this is according to the CIA , MI6 and Mossad among others, Israel on the other hand has approximately 200 nuclear warheads, all conveniently undeclared, which is maybe why the US never mentions them.
