Fears raised over transfer times for children needing transplants

A confidential hospital report has said that current travel arrangements are “unsustainable”.

A TD HAS called on the HSE to immediately clarify what contingency measures are in place for transporting transplant patients.

This is after a confidential report from the chief executive of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin to the board of directors said that current travel arrangements are “unsustainable”.

The report – which was seen by Sinn Féin TD Louise O’Reilly and RTÉ’s This Week programme – expresses serious concerns about the viability of travel arrangements for organ donor patients.

According to RTÉ, the report points to staffing difficulties with pilots and air traffic controllers as a reason for delayed transport times for patients.

It states that the HSE’s National Aeromedical Command Centre (NACC) (which is run by the National Ambulance Service) notified the hospital that staffing difficulties meant “transport of and transport timelines for Priority 1 children called for heart and liver transplants to the UK could not be guaranteed over the Christmas holiday period”.

O’Reilly has now called on the HSE to outline what contingency measures are in place for children who are in high priority need for an organ transplant

“This is very worrying and the HSE need to outline in detail what contingency arrangements are in place for children who are priority 1 on the transplant list,” she said.

These desperately ill children and their families need clarity from the HSE about what arrangements are in place.

In a statement to This Week, the HSE said it was “aware of pilot and air traffic personnel issues within the Irish Air Corps regarding the aeromedical services for paediatric organ transplant patients. Consequently, the availability of fixed wing aircraft for such transfers has recently been reduced”.

It also said it has “engaged with the Irish Coast Guard and private air ambulance providers in an effort to ensure that contingency arrangements are in place. These services will be utilised when needed and as available”.

Love the climate change argument – however another possibility is that due to deforestation of their natural habitat the reindeer can’t get access to the moss and lichen they need (apparently it takes 150years for a forest to mature sufficiently to satisfy the reindeers diet). How do I know that? Well I was in lapland last week where we met the reindeer and spoke with a reindeer farmer. Apparently they didn’t need to feed them in the summer before but now because of deforestation they do.

In general you’d be right decso – but not in this case as there are no trees there in any case. Also, the reindeer there are an island sub-species which are dwarfs, so a loss of 12% body mass is potentially even more serious..?

In less than 10 days it will be midwinter as the North and South poles move to a position of polar noon and polar midnight within an annual cycle. They have already experienced 3 months of constant sunlight at the South pole when the Sun came into view at the September Equinox ( polar dawn) and will remain in view until the March Equinox (polar sunset).

What happens is that as the Earth travels through space it turns once separate to daily rotation so that the North and South poles act like a beacon or a window into the fact that the entire surface turns once as a function of the orbital motion of the Earth. The Earth or the Arctic doesn’t tilt towards and away from the Sun as the old explanations have it but rather the planet has two separate rotations corresponding to the planet’s two distinct day/night cycles. Where these two cycles combine at our latitudes we call it the seasons.

Concentrating on the Antarctic continent as it turns across the fully illuminated face of the planet helps readers appreciate what actually causes such things as Arctic sea ice to form and disappear as it is something new to look at. Those who are only interest in the doom laden agenda of global warming/ climate change are unlikely to enjoy what can be now seen through modern satellite imaging.

@Elma Phudd: “the Skate found open water both in the summer and following winter. We surfaced near the North Pole in the winter through thin ice less than 2 feet thick. The ice moves from Alaska to Iceland and the wind and tides causes open water as the ice breaks up. The Ice at the polar ice cap is an average of 6-8 feet thick, but with the wind and tides the ice will crack and open into large polynyas (areas of open water), these areas will refreeze over with thin ice. We had sonar equipment that would find these open or thin areas to come up through, thus limiting any damage to the submarine. The ice would also close in and cover these areas crushing together making large ice ridges both above and below the water. We came up through a very large opening in 1958 that was 1/2 mile long and 200 yards wide. The wind came up and closed the opening within 2 hours. On both trips we were able to find open water. We were not able to surface through ice thicker than 3 feet.”

Maybe only underage children read the Journal and post comments however for those who value their intelligence and the ability to reason they can enjoy something more suited to adults in the form of the new explanation for the seasons and what happens in the Arctic region each year. Instead of saying the Earth tilts towards and away from the Sun, the new explanation splits the planet’s two distinct day/night cycles apart by cause , in this case dual rotations to the Sun, and then combines them as we experience them as the seasons. Put it down as a thinking person’s approach to the terrestrial science of temperatures and that the two distinct rotations can be seen makes it a challenge for those who can appreciate something better than the nonsense taking the name of planetary climate.

It is basically the middle of the day or polar noon at the South pole while it is polar midnight and almost midwinter in our hemisphere and it would be nice if a few responsible adults managed to appreciate the two great planetary cycles, one daily and one annual, that makes their existence possible.

Your “two day/night cycles” argument is just a nice alternative way of visualising how the Earth simultaneously spins on it’s own axis and is tilted on it’s yearly orbit round the sun, which as we all know explains why we have day and night and annual seasons, but WTF does that have to do with climate change?

I did say I was looking for people who value their intelligence hence there is no need to place quotations marks around the planet’s two distinct day/night cycles. The Earth turns once each weekday and generates the day/night cycle where the Sun comes into view at dawn and disappears at twilight. The Earth also has a polar day/night cycle where the Sun comes into view at the Equinox, stays in view for 6 months and then is absent from view for 6 months a the opposite Equinox.

In short, when daily rotation is subtracted, the planet turns once to the Sun as a function of the Earth’s orbital motion and this is best appreciated at the Arctic and Antarctic regions where the polar day/night cycle and its effects, including Arctic sea ice evolution , are in response to the orbital surface rotation.

Don’t worry son, it is not for everyone but for those who can interpret 21st century imaging correctly and especially concentrating on the dual rotations of the Antarctic continent across the fully illuminated face of the Earth they will arrive at a sensible conclusion -

At the risk of repeating myself, you describing the seasons as an annual day/night cycle is nothing more than an alternative description of how the Earth on a tilted axis orbits the sun. Astronomers have known about this for centuries so I’m not sure why you’re posting it here as if it’s something new, especially as it has nothing whatsoever to do with climate change.

It is fine son, sometimes people just don’t get the idea that the Earth rotates to the Sun in two separate ways but unfortunately astronomy and its links to terrestrial sciences has been so corrupt that even something as new that few or even nobody realizes what is being done using 21st century imaging. Copernicus didn’t fear the Church, he feared that those who encountered his work didn’t have a delicate turn of mind to work through the principles and likewise here the same applies -

“Therefore I debated with myself for a long time whether to publish the volume which I wrote to prove the earth’s motion or rather to follow the example of the Pythagoreans and certain others, who used to transmit philosophy’s secrets only to kinsmen and friends, not in writing but by word of mouth, as is shown by Lysis’ letter to Hipparchus. And they did so, it seems to me, not, as some suppose, because they were in some way jealous about their teachings, which would be spread around; on the contrary, they wanted the very beautiful thoughts attained by great men of deep devotion not to be ridiculed by those who are reluctant to exert themselves vigorously in any literary pursuit unless it is lucrative; or if they are stimulated to the nonacquisitive study of philosophy by the exhortation and example of others, yet because of their dullness of mind they play the same part among philosophers as drones among bees. When I weighed these considerations, the scorn which I had reason to fear on account of the novelty and unconventionality of my opinion almost induced me to abandon completely the work which I had undertaken” Copernicus

To dumb it down for you, you are a packaged product with predictable notions so anything original is not going to register but it is not your fault, it is just the way you have been moved through the system. Unless you want to make a nuisance of yourself I suggest you remain at a level where you are best suited.

All planets possess a climate however to understand what the common features are means dealing with such things as fixed inclination as the major factor. This is not going to happen with the notion that the Earth tilts towards and away from the Sun as a means to explain the seasons when two separate rotations are need to accomplish that objective.

It is like wonderful music – anyone can appreciate it however some can pick up on the nuances of what is being done. In this case the polar day/night cycle uses a separate rotation to account for the appearance of the Sun at one Equinox, its disappearance at the opposite Equinox and polar noon and midnight midway between these events. It is when this rotation combines with daily rotation that we get the seasons at lower latitudes thereby displacing the old and inaccurate notion that the Earth tilts towards and away from the Sun.

Planetary climate is determined within a spectrum between Equatorial and Polar so that it is easy enough, at least with familiarity, to gauge what type of climate the Earth has in comparison to the other planets like Venus,Jupiter and Saturn using common traits to make that call. It would only make sense to those who can come back to basics and understand the dynamics why the temperatures at their location rise and fall both daily and annually.

If you understand that two rotations are responsible for the planet’s two distinct day/night cycles then congratulations as you are among the first to see something new, something productive and creative.
