IN THE LAST few weeks, the White House’s relationship with the media has been, at best, strained.
Donald Trump has persistently made reference to the media as purveyors of “fake news” in recent weeks, with the New York Times the main target of his ire.
Notwithstanding Trump’s criticism, media outlets in the US have been met with alternate facts, fictional terror events and the furore over the President’s travel ban from the White House since Trump took office.
The latest attack from the Trump administration on the media came in the form of a list, which detailed 78 terror attacks that were “executed or inspired by” the Islamic State group where “most” failed to received adequate media coverage.
During remarks made at MacDill Air Force Base, Trump said: “All over Europe, it’s happening. It’s gotten to a point where it’s not even being reported.
And in many cases the very, very dishonest press doesn’t want to report it. They have their reasons and you can understand that.
Here’s how TheJournal.ie covered some of these “under-reported” events.
Paris attacks
On 13 November 2015, a series of coordinated attacks in Paris killed 130 people.
Gunmen killed 89 people in the Bataclan music venue, while suicide bombers struck outside the Stade de France and outside cafés and restaurants in the city.
IS claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Nice attack
Last summer, on Bastille Day in France, a 19 tonne cargo truck deliberately drove into crowds out on a promenade in the southern city of Nice, killing 86 people.
Again, the perpetrator pledged his allegiance to IS.
Berlin
Again, IS claimed responsibility after a truck ploughed into people at a Berlin Christmas market just a few weeks ago, killing 12 people.
And a few more
Three tourists were stabbed to death in an Egyptian resort hotel in January 2016.
A married couple who pledged allegiance to IS opened fire at a social services centre for people with disabilities in San Bernardino, California, in December 2015.
A man wielding a knife in a London tube station shouting “This is for Syria” threatened commuters, while someone looking on can be heard saying “you ain’t no Muslim, bruv”.

Other numbers being used, 087 1328232, 085 2133977, 087 2396340, 086 1088080. Got texts from all these yesterday and today all about a DHL delivery. Beware, beware, beware!!

@ianglen: I’m the same yet my landlines is ex directory. It had quitened down for a while but now crazy.
@Laura Clayton: Got several from 083 numbers. Got numerous text messages from” Bank of Ireland” regarding security breaches on my account. I don’t.even have one!! Its gone mad this last two to.three weeks.

@ianglen: I always answer the landline in the hope it’s the ‘Amazon Prime’ scammers. Great crack messing with them.
@Franny Ando: they can still dial your phone even if it is ex-directory. The process is known as war dialling, the crudest method of doing it, is to fill an Excel spreadsheet with every single possible phone number combination and start dialling. However there are clever ways of doing it. If you have access to an old-fashioned phone book, you can create all sorts of auto dialling lists,. If your number is not in the phone book they can still Guess it and they don’t have to go through as many combinations.

These scams terrify my elderly parents so I do all online shopping for them now. The packages are delivered to their address but I use my email address and phone number so they don’t have to deal with any of the updates and tracking. I just let them know what the tracking information says as it’s updated. It means they know to ignore and delete any texts or emails they get about deliveries because they shouldn’t be getting them. It’s a weight off their minds and worth doing for anyone who is vulnerable to these scams or who doesn’t feel confident enough to differentiate between real and suspicious messages.
@FrustratedASDMum: These scams are disgusting. I spoke with a NON – PC neighbour yesterday who purchased a product online using my account (I bought it 4 days ago online), and they clicked a link on their phone thinking that a parcel from Germany could arrive in Ireland within 24 hours.
Just got one there this morning in Spain, from GLS, not awaiting any package. As a general rule you just never click on a link in an sms, especially links that give no info.
I got two in two days. Blocked the numbers and deleted the texts without opening.
I got one this morning I reported it as scam and deleted it.
Click link on iPhone > leads to dead link as its invalid on iOS.
Click link on android > gives root access to the file system to allow the app run as a system process causing all sorts of havoc.
I got one yesterday from 0871328232 saying my DHL package couldn’t be delivered, I’m not expecting a parcel. Very suspicious.
With all these scams and malwares coming from unknown app installs, I guess Google will soon move the setting to install unknown apps into developer options or put some other restriction on it.
@ianglen: And as soon as they do, have millions dump Android phones? I highly doubt it. Just looking through my own apps, of the 20 most used that I’ve installed myself only 6 were installed from the Play Store. Unknown or Unsafe apps, according to Google, seems to be simply ones from which they don’t get a cut of purchase or advertising revenue. Anyway, on the subject of the article, never click a link in a text no matter what company you think it is from.

The only way to stop these scam texts and calls is to get a new number. If you’re receiving these texts and calls, it means your number has been leaked online after a data breach, like the one that happened in April against Facebook.
The only way to stop it is to get a new number. And NOT add that number to Facebook, in case of another breach.

It’s not just “missed deliveries” it’s also texts that look like a delivery reminder saying ” such and such will deliver your item today between this time and that time” followed by a link, so watch out for. These too!
This is all because of the Facebook Data hack in April, I recommend people check to see if their number has been Compromised by checking the have I been pwned website.

Who cares really just ignore suspicious calls and texts don’t waste your time and energy with scammers,has always worked for me, no problem.

Got 3 in as many days. All we need to do is look at the link and see if is pointing to a website whose name you do not recognise.
If it is a name (in the link) you do recognise, ring the company and talk to them. Legit delivery people will probably tell you a delivery detail or two in the message also!
