Kim Jong-Nam killing: Two women charged with murder

If the suspects – from Indonesia and Vietnam – are found guilty, they will face death by hanging.

Updated at 7.40am

TWO WOMEN WILL be charged with the murder of Kim Jong-Nam, who was assassinated with a lethal nerve agent at Kuala Lumpur’s main airport, Malaysia’s attorney general has said.

“They will be charged in court under Section 302 (murder) of the penal code,” said Mohamed Apandi Ali, two weeks after the half-brother of North Korea’s leader was killed.

The suspects, from Indonesia and Vietnam, will appear in court tomorrow. If found guilty they face death by hanging.

In leaked CCTV footage, two women are seen shoving something into Kim’s face at the airport’s Terminal 2. The 45-year-old  suffered a seizure and died before he reached hospital.

Both women have insisted they thought they were taking part in the making of a prank video.

Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 25, reportedly told a senior diplomat at the weekend that she had been paid just 400 ringgit (€85) for her role, adding she believed she was handling a liquid like “baby oil”.

Vietnamese woman Doan Thi Huong, 28, told Hanoi officials she had been tricked into killing Kim and thought she was taking part in a prank for a comedy video.

A third suspect, 46-year-old North Korean man Ri Jong-Chol, was also arrested following the brazen 13 February killing.

Apandi did not mention if he would be charged.

This is clearly an attempt by Malaysia and western countries to cover up the state sponsored murder of a North Korea citizen. I demand that the body and all evidence be sent to North Korea immediately for independent analysis

@Tweety McTweeter: Perhaps shove a whole load more VX up the old tan track where the sun don’t shine before repatriating his carcass and perhaps we might get a few more of that family.

Unfortunately I doubt the Malaysian judicial system will accept brainwashing as mitigation.

Their story is so off-the-wall it may well be true. It would be interesting if there was cctv footage available for the entire timeframe after they first arrived at the airport.

If those two handled VX with their bare hands, never mind anything else, they weren’t aware of what it was. If they weren’t aware of what it was, where’s the mens rea to murder? No malicious intent, no murder.
