PRO-LIFE AND pro-choice campaigners took part in ad-hoc protests on Dame St this afternoon, culminating in the repeal protesters crossing over to face the pro-life side.
A traffic garda has appeared at the scene in recent minutes to discuss the situation with the Strike for Repeal protest organisers.
Asked what they thought of the situation, a pro-life campaigner said: “It’s great, democracy at work.”
Pro-life campaigners left the scene at about 4.30pm.
Earlier today, an official Strike for Repeal protest began at 12.30pm and saw hundreds of people gather at O’Connell Bridge.
A rival pro-life campaign began at the Central Bank on Dame St at 1.15pm.
Around 15 – 20 pro-life campaigners are currently across from the Central Bank on Dame St. In the last hour, a large group of pro-choice campaigners gathered at the Central Bank facing them, and began to play loud music and shout through megaphones.
The pro-life campaigners were carrying four banners with photographs of aborted foetuses on them.
It is believed the protest at the Central Bank by the pro-choice campaigners was an unofficial one.
Protesters moved from the Central Bank and crossed over to meet face-to-face with the pro-life activists. Toward the end of the protest, some repeal campaigners stood directly in front of the pro-life banners, until the pro-life protesters left.
A number of people with Repeal signs and jumpers appeared out the windows of an apartment above the pro-life activists, and began playing loud music.
Traffic is very light in the area, and the incident is not causing traffic jams.

We are publishing a book in the coming weeks and has a picture of Ireland from 1843, the earliest we believe to be late 1830′.
Any evidence?
Or this one from 1860 of O’Connell St again I think the long exposure gives the impression of no people / horses etc

What about the two men sitting at a table on the right??
How do you know they are men? Women didn’t have much rights back then but they were allowed sit at tables.
I imagine them sitting at a table playing cards or dominoes, this would’ve been a predominantly male pastime. Then again there’s no mention of these people so it’s likely my eyes are playing tricks on me!

They did a collectors edition book called the wonderful world of Albert Kahn, it has a whole bunch of photos from all over the world, amazing to see the cultures preserved in it. The time period is just before the world wars and the collection of photos is worth checking out.

So apparently, there was a massive jump in quality from inception in 1826 to 1860 and then no discernible improvements until the introduction of colour in the 1960s-1970s.
Incorrect … The exposure & development processes dramatically changed and speeded up…

This photograph has been known for a very long time. It is written about in ‘The Photograph’ by Graham Clarke, published in 1997. And I’m sure I have seen it in earlier texts.
So it seems this isn’t really news. Or perhaps the news is that someone has tweeted about an old, famous, photograph.
