Five injured in axe attack at Dusseldorf's main train station in Germany

One man has been arrested.

A MAN WAS arrested after injuring five people with an axe at Dusseldorf’s main train station late this evening, police said, correcting earlier police reports of two arrests.

A spokeswoman for Dusseldorf police Anja Kynast told The Associated Press that the man arrested was also injured.

“People travelling were injured by the assailants’ axes,” the police said, adding that it was unclear exactly how many attackers were involved.

Those injured were not in a life-threatening condition, the police spokesman said.

Rail traffic was stopped at the station as helicopters scoured overhead and police were deployed in the area of the attack, the Bild daily reported.

German authorities have been on the alert for terror attacks, especially since an attack claimed by the Islamic State group in December when a hijacked truck ploughed into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people.

According to German security services, there are about 10,000 radical Islamists in the country, of whom 1,600 have suspected links to terror groups.

Correct me if I’m wrong but a Brasilian f.o.m told me there was a higher murder rate there than in Iraq during the summer months

Wouldn’t surprise me. Think the murder rate in Chicago is higher than Iraq, I’m sure Rio is a lot higher. Think the death toll in Mexico from drug violence is more than Afghanistan and Iraq combined.

I visited Fortaleza in April 2014. The murder rate that weekend was 65. No one seemed to care.

Beautiful country but the difference between the haves and the have nots is pretty astounding and with Dilma gone that divide will only get bigger.

Such a beautiful but mad and dangerous city, the poverty gap is immense and shocking even when expected. Always remember seeing a partially clothed child sleeping on cardboard under a Ferrari.
