Most people agree with the Angelus being broadcast on TV and radio

Six in 10 people are happy with things as they are.

MOST PEOPLE AGREE with the Angelus being broadcast on TV and radio, according to the latest Amárach Research poll for Claire Byrne Live.

Six in 10 (62%) of the people polled agreed with the Angelus being broadcast, while 27% didn’t and 11% were unsure.

Over 1,000 adults were asked their thoughts on the issue earlier today.

They were also asked if the government should seize church land and property to compensate victims of clerical or institutional abuse. Some 69% said Yes, 17% said No and 14% were unsure.

People were also asked if they believed that Irish citizens living outside the Republic should be entitled to vote in Irish elections. Half (53%) said Yes, while 37% said No and 10% were unsure.

Yesterday, Taoiseach Enda Kenny announced that a referendum on allowing citizens living abroad to vote in presidential elections will be held.

60% of “all Irish people” agree with the original comment, meaning they have no issue with old fashioned anonymous perving based on lack of information… Just like a mini Claire Byrne poll on the angelus, some stats are pointless about something being right or wrong.

The people surveyed were people with phones on the end of their phone line who are in the telephone directory and have not block their number from being used for marketing. These kind of surveys effect the outcomes of government kite flying but nowadays people are to absorbed in their own lives to see what’s going on around them. the me me me oh look a cat attitude is hindering any meaningful progress.

On the issue of the state appropriating Church property? Irrelevant populism, will never happen as it would involve a constitutional change and a dangerous one at that. Only dictatorships and communist states have that kind of power.
Anyway, Leo Varadkar has ruled it out as a complete non runner.

The Angelus bell is a reminder of the coming of Christ, our Creator and Saviour. As far as I am concerned, it is the best programme on radio and TV. My wish is also have it on ALL Irish stations, radio and TV. It only takes about 60 seconds to revrently recite the beautiful prayer, The Angelus. 60 seconds is a very small time out of 1,440 seconds in a day.

Several years ago, the muslems living in Ireland , when asked about it, they said that it reminded them to pray and had no difficulty with it being on the airwaves. I assume that is still their position today. Long may the Angelus bell ring on radio and TV

@James… I think you’re probably right about it being the best show on Irish TV but i have a solution to keep everyone happy. Simply change RTE to mean Religion Teilifís Éireann then put whatever prayer, mass or indoctrinate message you like on there and the rest of us can simply turn it off… that is of course, if we ever mistakenly turned on that mind-numbing excuse for a national broadcaster in the first place.

Straw man argument the James. Most people who call themselves liberal are entirely supportive of freedom of religion. People believing or practising any or no religion is of no difficulty – as long as they don’t try to impose their religion on others. In recent times, picking particular religions to hate/persecute seems to be the preserve of those who identify themselves as anti-liberal.

The Angelus is a one of the things which confirms the existence of the Roman Catholic Church theocracy in Ireland. The fact that the Angelus enjoys such apparent popular support shows the devotion and loyalty of the Irish people to a child abusing and child molesting institution which continues to cause much harm in Irish society.

The poll is held by a reputable survey group. The numbers recieved are correct as far as statistical analysis. My issue is with the group surveyed. I only recently started to watch Claire Byrne live. I like Claire Byrnes control of her debates. I generally avoid RTE programming. i hate the way, even in the news, they pushing catholic and government agenda. If they take a survey of a group of people from one corner of society although you may cover your basis as far as age and social background the people surveyed will still have the same religious leaning no matter how weak or strong their daily opinion. The angelus taints every other show on RTE with its religious brush and adds a point of biased to their programme to such a degree that it is noticeable. An opinion i wouldnt automatically associate it with any other channel. If channel 4 stared broadcasting the call to prayer or Hebrew hymns on religious holidays and chose only one of those religions to associate itself with it would change the way people thought of how its programming was made and its intentions.

The wording in the prayers of the Angelus are based on Holy Scripture and were the words spoken to the Virgin Mary by the Angel Gabriel. People who pray The Angelus have devotion to Our Lady and Our Lord, not to an institution. I am a practicing Christian because I believe the teaching of Christ in The Bible. I am Catholic because I believe in the teaching of the Eucharist as instructed at the Last Supper. God has nothing to do with clerical abuse, He gives everyone free will. I think the Church has handled it badly and victims should be compensated. Remember that those priest’s would have been paedophiles no matter what career they chose. It is worse because they’re in positions of respect and authority.

Your faith is important to you, your life and your choices. Many muslims use clocks that sing the call to prayer in their homes when the hours strike. A television broadcaster and television programming does not need to tell you when to pray just as the catholic religion does not effect your faith or how you choose to celebrate your faith or pray. Its about biased. I would rather the angelus be broadcast and the rest of my daily television schedule be over run by all denominational calls to pray and hebrew prayer to be inclusive of everyone. And yes it is a nonsensical and yes nobody would want that but it would be fair and non biased. Just as all debates have to have a balanced argument with opinions people dont like to hear so should prayers on television. Or better yet let people of any faith pray at their designated times or times of their own choosing in their own homes or house of worship. And yes i do change the channel (which it would rarely be on RTE) or turn the radio dial down when i hear it because it is an annoying sound that interupts my day and reminds me that catholicism is everywhere. I have sympathy for thise who suffer PTSD because of clerical abuse wuth that sound following them everywhere. But that is my opinion and actions that i express in my own home in private.

RTE seem to give Colm O’Gorman free rein to peddle his poison. Notice how Dr. Death Sheehan was saved by Claire Byrne from having to answer the question from Maria Stein – what do you do with the babies you abort? The voice in her earpiece obviously told her to move to another speaker. Young babies have no hope in an agenda-driven media.

Oh dear. I wonder how many if thise who voted to keep tge angelous turn it off when it comes on?!

I dont undersand why even practicing catholics would welcome that incessant bonging twice a day.
Its an awful affliction. Not to mention blatant evidence that ireland is far from a secular state but still shackeled by the restraints of the church.

The fact that so many want to keep this nonsense just because “its a tradition at this stage” goes some way towards explaining why the electorate continue to return the ridiculous self serving FG/FF to government.

Dont be so afraid of change people. The angelous is horrendous.

It doesn’t matter if they agree. The state shouldn’t promote religion and the minority shouldn’t be exposed to the tyranny of the majority, even if it is something stupid like the angeles. It represents a much broader problem.

Everyone knows deep down even if they don’t admit it that all religion is man made nonsense and that the Catholic Church are an evil cult however I don’t really have a problem with the angelus being on twice a day, it’s harmless enough! Plus it’s probably a comfort to the elderly people who still call themselves Catholic

Even though I am forced to contribute to maintaining the talentless denziens of Montrose in the style to which they have becone accustomed, I don’t watch or listen to RTE. However, I see nothing wrong with keeping the Angelus provided the church pay the going rate for what is after all prime-time advertising.

At this point I think most people are ambivalent about the Angelus. Personally, I prefer that minute be sold as commercial broadcast time. If the Church would like to pay for it then having the Angelus on twice a day would not be contentious. After all, commercial time at those hours would help pay for RTE.

Most people are idiots. There should be complete separation between church and state. RTE as the state broadcastor should be banned for airing it on all platforms,

Watching shows like this one, you can clearly see what views are supported by RTE. Note how much air time was given to anti Church comments and pro Church comments were seized as soon as a person speaking made a short pause. If people of Ireland want to put the catholic Church on the margin of the social life why won’t they stop bringing their babies to catholic Churches to have them christened, why won’t they stop having catholic Church weddings and funerals? They are very loud criticising the catholic Church when it suits them but are first in the line asking for prayers when a tragedy occurs. poor hypocrisy…

Angelus or not, why do we still allow groups like Opus dei, to secretly infiltrate our schools and colleges gaining access to our children/brothers/sisters, turning them in to slaves to make their organisation ever richer? At what point will anyone say stop? https://dialogueireland.wordpress.com/2009/07/20/whats-so-secret-about-opus-dei/
