Beauty and the Beast

What we know

This live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast is totally faithful to the original animation – but brings its own spark to the table. One for all the family. Starring Emma Watson as the feisty Belle.

What the critics say

  • “Following the blueprint laid out for it by its predecessor faithfully but not slavishly, it hits all the big notes, while adding a few new melodies of its own.” – Empire
  • “The new “Beauty and the Beast” is a touching, eminently watchable, at times slightly awkward experience that justifies its existence yet never totally convinces you it’s a movie the world was waiting for.” – Variety

What we know

Everyone’s been talking about this film written and directed by Jordan Peele. It stars Daniel Kaluuya as a young man who takes a trip to visit his white girlfriend’s family – and realises that things are just a little bit weird there. But are they deadly?

What the critics say

  • “Coming as it does from an expert parodist, the film is often funnier around its edges than most full-blown comedies are at center, even as Peele largely resists playing his scenario—a kind of town-with-a-secret spin on Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner—strictly for laughs.” – AV Club
  • “Blending race-savvy satire with horror to especially potent effect, this bombshell social critique from first-time director Jordan Peele proves positively fearless — which is not at all the same thing as scareless.” – Variety

What we know

Kristen Stewart plays a young woman – and personal shopper – whose brother dies in Paris. So she stays in his apartment, waiting for a sign from him.

What the critics say

  • “Assayas’s great new film is by turns sinister, jarringly mundane, and entirely inimitable, as it explores the peculiar sorrow of losing a loved one while avoiding the obvious routes such a tale would usually take.” – The Atlantic
  • “If you have a penchant for mood pieces that flirt with genre but are too pretentious to deliver the full climactic payload, Personal Shopper is for you.” – Vulture
