Helicopter destined for Dublin goes missing over the Irish Sea

Five people are on board the helicopter.

Updated: 10.30

A HELICOPTER CARRYING five people has gone missing over the Irish Sea and search and rescue operations are currently underway, according to the UK Coastguard.

In a statement released this evening, a ”privately-owned twin squirrel red helicopter with five people on board is believed to have left Milton Keynes earlier today en route to Dublin, via Caernarfon Bay”.

Earlier this afternoon, radar contact was lost with the helicopter. The UK Coastguard contacted all nearby airbases which reported no sighting or radio contact from the helicopter.

The flight took off from Milton Keynes at around midday. It should have arrived in Dublin before 6pm.

It is understood that five men were on board the aircraft, all of whom are from the UK.

According to a spokeswoman from the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard: “Searches are being hampered due to poor visibility and low cloud cover. The helicopter departed Milton Keynes at around noon today. It is a UK registered helicopter.”

UK Coastguard duty commander Peter Davies said:  ”We have established a search plan between Caernarfon Bay and the shore of Dublin and currently have two coastguard helicopters searching the route.

“We are in the process of contacting all the vessels in the Irish Sea that were in the vicinity around midday and we are continuing mayday broadcast action for any vessels currently in the area to contact us if they have further information.

“At the moment we are appealing to these vessels and to the public that if they have seen a twin squirrel red helicopter to please contact 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”

The Irish Coastguard is also helping with the operation.

Did the IRA get a united ireland? Did they achieve ‘brits out’? The answer of course is no.. They realised it was futile to continue as it was a waste of time as they could never achieve their aims.. If they thought they could they would not have stopped.. They were looking for a way out since the mid eighties.

The provisional IRA was born out of the suffering of Catholics in the 6 countires, not machinations of a united Ireland.

Oh, and they won the right for the people of the Island to decide democratically on a united Ireland, unthinkable before the troubles.

And that lame excuse of a warning in coleraine or the m62 bombing where they didn’t give a warning and decided it was ok to kill the soldiers families aswell, docklands bombing – no warning. Bishopsgate not enough time after CODED warning. Two children killed in Warrington when they didn’t get enough time to evacuate . Warning didn’t prevent 6 from dying at harrods. No warning for dunmurry train explosion. Mountbattens family and boat crew didn’t get a warning, was it necessary to kill the children on board? Just 9 minutes warning before la mon bombing 12 civilians died. Warning only 10 mins before hilton bombing, 2 died. Not enough time to evacuate Birmingham pubs. Just to name a few

I remember it well as I was living on London at that time. It had a huge negative impact on irish people living there.

So I’m not sure why we are celebrating a 20 years ceasefire.

The IRA fought the BA to a standstill in the North of Ireland. Now is the time for politics.

    Your taking the piss right?

Blowing up bases and homes alike is not fighting the British Army to a standstill.

They fought the British army to a stalemate using Guerilla war tactics using tactics developed by the original IRA of Collins.

They did in their fecking hole, British Army casualties were minimal really given the length of the conflict. It was no Iraq.

Just the British state had no intention of an occupation, they wanted peace. They’d give the fiscal blackhole back tomorrow if they could.

Casualty numbers are irrelevant in this context. At the time the sides involved in the conflict negotiated a ceasefire, there was no victor and no realistically achievable path to a victory for any party involved i.e. a stalemate.

Guerrilla warfare like Michael Collins? Ya right! Bombing civilians in city centres isn’t guerrilla warfare! That’s terrorism

Amazing how Sinn fein has no actual interest in a United Ireland. None.

Where is the policy documents? It’s easy to call for a border poll which will never pass. But where is the plan to start interesting the NHS into the Irish health system. Do the doctors get new contracts? What about civil service pensions? What about policing and the laws? Do the PSNI stay armed? Do they start doing the junior cert? Do they have compulsory Irish?

I’d like to see greater integration of health and policing in the north with the North of the Republic. Would save money and make life better.

David a united Ireland is a job for us all to achieve … Not just SF … We all need to work together .When SF are part of the government we can put a green paper for Irish unity in place.

You have no interest in working together as Sinn fein has demonstrated time and time again in the north.

Why is Gerry Adams calling for a border poll when they very clearly haven’t the slightest inkling of the process. The point is to rule up the base and intentionally make things difficult for the other community.

The SNP had internal discussions on the process and decades of policy papers before the referendum.

Sinn fein calling for a border poll explicitly against the terms of the good Friday agreement shows how incapable SF is of responsible government.
