Quiz: What is your relationship with your phone like?

Take our quiz and see whether you and your phone need a break – or get on just fine.

#LIVE-A-BETTER-LIFE-banner-image-final (1)

FOR THE FIRST week of our Live A Better Life series, we’re starting off small: we’re getting to know how we interact with our phones before we make any major changes.

As knowledge is power, it’s time for us to be honest about our phone use, and take a proper look at it.

So for Day One in Week One, we’re simply asking you to take this quiz. No need to do anything afterwards, just see how you feel about the results, and let us know in the comments if you wish.

The first few questions here need an option of Never instead of Rarely.

@Eugene Tyson: hey Eugene – ‘rarely’ would be weighted the same as ‘none’ in the results so don’t worry if you would rather click ‘none’. It won’t affect your result.

@❄️Aoife Barry: “Rarely” and “Never” or “None” are not the same thing, really.

Ancient iPhone 4 the battery lasts ten mins to half an hour unless plugged in to the car or PC use for calls whatsapps and bank ac checks that’s it. 25 euro SIM only Tesco unlimited calls and texts bill. Does me grand with a cheap bluetooth vibe headset. Ppl can’t get me leave a msg might check 171 tomorrow or the next day. Was born in a time and grew up in a place when where phones were bakelite an no dials you had to crank the handle on the side to wake up Bridie down the post office who might answer you and put you through to some neighbours or family you more often named than numbered and if she was in a good mood she mightn’t even eavesdrop on your conversations which she usually did being a cranky oul’ gossip the original La MalDita. Last exchange in the country to go automatic was round these parts. Friend of my dad on the phone to another friend once talking business they heard Bridie’s breath whistling over her dentures and one said to t’other ”Right Tom I’ll see you about those contracts in about an..what time is it now Bridie” and like that she said ‘Four o’clock’ and then horriified silence followed by click off in mortification.

Some questions aren’t fair. I use my phone as my alarm so I turn it on in bed before I go to sleep. That does not mean I am on my phone I just turn on the alarm and go to sleep.

The mobile phone is great to have in the car for contacting help in unforeseen incidents.
Back in the sixties I came upon a horrific crash on a remote spot on the Cork Kerry border. First and only car to arrive on the scene. Took a long time to drive to the nearest houses and even longer to locate one with a phone to call for help. Mutable fatalities in that crash.

I got frequent user. I’m not surprised really but when you think years ago we needed a different appliance or object for nearly everything we can do now on our mobile. We have a clock, newspapers, e-mails, camera etc and these are just the basics!

@Caoimhe O’Flaherty: I recently did a UCD online certificate course using my phone! No need for travel, taking time off work, stationery – lectures, assignments and exams were all done by phone mostly using e-mail! If somebody had told me 10 years ago that would be possible I would not have believed them!
