A DONEGAL WOMAN has died after she fell overboard from a boat on Lough Erne, in the northern county of Fermanagh during the night.
Emergency services were called to scene at 1.20am this morning, after reports that the woman had fallen overboard at Devenish Island on the lake.
She is believed to have been in her 30s and was on a family holiday with her husband and two children, and was on a rented boat at the time.
PSNI Chief Inspector Clive Beatty told BBC’s Good Morning Ulster that the woman’s husband tried to jump into the lake to rescue her, but wasn’t able to reach her.
They are a family from Donegal and they were up here on holiday just for the Easter weekend.
He added: “We performed CPR ourselves and transferred them to the ambulance who continued to conduct CPR until 2:57 when the woman was pronounced deceased at the hospital”.
Earlier, Inspector Gavin Sterling said: “A full search operation was implemented and sadly a body was recovered from the water before 3am this morning.”
Sterling said that a full investigation into the circumstances around the incident is now underway. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out soon.
He added: “Local police would extend their sympathies to the family and would offer thanks to all of the agencies involved in the overnight operation.”
DUP leader Arlene Foster sent her condolences to the family of the woman in a statement this morning.
She said: “This is heartbreaking news for the area. I want to extend my sympathy, thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of this young woman. The death of a young life will come as an immense shock to this area and in particular the woman’s family.”

Fox News need Trump a hell of a lot more than he needs them. They know a winner when they see one.
This is a “scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.” The ultimate symbiotic relationship. With Fox News backing him I think Trump will win. If he does, I hope his first order of business is to put an end to group rights and entitlements, sort out the PC culture which prevails at the the universities and colleges. Indeed, that’s where all the nonsense started. Sort out the Mexican border and stop arming Syrian “rebels”. There’s no such thing, just militias all of whom are as bad as each other. That would be a good start.
Well said Marg. Don’t forgot Trump is virulently opposed to TTIP and wants to audit the Federal Reserve. Imagine what would happen if hew uncovers grand scale criminality with that audit — the consequences that would have throughout the world? It would revolutionize the banking system and see an end to those illegal thieving banker bailouts that blight ours and other countries throughout Europe.
It’s all a big act folks. Ask yourself, why has Kelly and Fox News waited a week to broadcast the interview? It’s all about building hype and media attention.

Yeah, imagine if that happened anywhere else, imagine if politicians here were awful, and treated vulnerable people terribly, and looked after their rich buddies and were all-round awful people, and the voters in that country democratically voted them back into office. They’d be awful stupid eejits right enough….
The anarchic side of me would love to see this cartoon character become president just to show what money can do…and what it shouldn’t do.
