Gorse fires blaze at Mosney as fire brigade warns public to be careful

Dublin Fire Brigade and Louth Fire Service both were called into fight yesterday’s fire.

DUBLIN FIRE BRIGADE was called out to assist Louth Fire Service yesterday after a large gorse fire broke out in Laytown/Mosney.

A video shared by DFB shows the scale of the blaze:

The fire was brought under control and is no longer an issue.

DFB warned that there is lots of dry countryside at the moment, and that people should be careful with rubbish if they are out and about.

Earlier this week, DFB had to be called out to fight a gorse fire in the Dublin Mountains. Fire engines from Tallaght, Rathfarnham and Donnybrook were called out to deal with the blaze.

“It has been dry for a few days now and vegetation is dry,” Dublin Fire Brigade said on Twitter. “Please take care with rubbish, cigarettes and BBQs if out and about.”

In the last weekend in March, 15 wildfires were recorded in at least seven different counties including Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Galway, Donegal, Louth and Mayo.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie, the Irish Wildlife Trust said that the illegal burning of vegetation was almost certainly to blame for those fires.

What about the number of motorists throwing lighted cigarette butts out of their cars as they drive along without any consideration as to what could potentially happen. It should be a criminal offence

@David Dineen: Animal welfare is so far down the Government’s list of priorities they barely recognise it as an issue.

Fires are deliberately set in Mosney – Laytown every year at this time. They are set in not just one place. It’s too much of a coincidence to be done at every dry spell at Easter to be kids or teenagers.

Why is the smoke black? What has been used to fuel the fire?
