Gardaí make appeal after man allegedly abducted from Kildare filling station

The victim says he’s shaken, but is recovering from the incident.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for information after a Co Kildare man was allegedly abducted at the weekend.

The 22-year-old man was working at a garage in Athy on Friday night when three men wearing navy ski masks entered the shop at 9pm.

The man and another staff member were closing the shop up at the time, so no customers were present.

The men demanded the takings from the safe, but when they realised that the safe was on a time lock, they abducted the 22-year-old staff member.

The remaining worker, who was forced to lie down on the floor, said:

They took him, I remained on my own. They’d taken my phone. A phone call came through, they told me to wait until the safe was open and put cash into a bag.

The staff member, who does not wish to be named, says he was warned that the young man’s life was in his hands. He was strictly ordered not to contact the gardaí.

He was instructed to meet them on the Ballylinan Road, about four miles from the garage. A bread knife was against his co-worker’s throat.

He handed over a bag of cash and the employee was released. The gardaí were then contacted. The victim says he’s shaken, but is recovering from the incident.

The alleged kidnappers are understood to be about 5”10 and spoke with Dublin accents.

Gardaí in Athy are appealing for information on a Mazda 323 saloon car, believed to be an older model. Anyone with information is asked to contact Athy Garda Station on 059 863 1669, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

@Denis Patrick Gill: The IRA were those men and women who with the support of the majority fought for our Independence in 1919-21. Those that followed after are not nor ever will be patriots. They are Traitors to the Irish people. They have attacked and murdered servants of the Irish State ( Members of the Gardai and a Prison Officer) they have committed multiple crimes against the citizens of the Republic, from Kidnapping for ransom to Armed Robbery, from Drug Dealing to Extortion. No crime is beneath them even rape and paedophilia. Those that followed after the originals, Patriots!! No I don’t believe so, Thugs, Criminals, Murderers would be closer to the truth.

@Denis Patrick Gill: The patriots of 1916 would turn in their graves with vermin like those marchers and you commemorating them

These are not real soldiers, and most certainly not representing the majority of Ireland. I believe in peace and dialogue The men of 1916 must be turning in there grave at the vermin that is trying to associate with them.. they can’t hold a candle to the men who fought in the 1916.
