Cruinniú na Cásca: Hundreds of thousands attend Ireland's newest cultural festival

Cruinniú na Cásca attracted some 550,000 people to events around the country.

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people attended Ireland’s newest artistic festival, Cruinniú na Cásca today.

Free events took place around the country to celebrate Irish culture, with RTÉ reporting that some 550,000 people were in attendance.

The festival follows on from last year’s 1916 commemorations, and is presented by RTÉ in association with Creative Ireland.

While many events took place nationwide, large-scale celebrations took place in Dublin, at St Stephen’s Green, Custom House Quay, Smithfield and Dublin Castle.

There was singing, dancing, and music on the streets – and even the Taoiseach was getting involved.

It appears Enda was in the mood for an old dance today.

There was also Irish dancing and Samba in St Stephen’s Green.

And Joe Duffy was also knocking around town.

The Chinese Children’s Dance Academy put on a spectacular display at Dublin’s Custom House.

But it wasn’t just Dublin that was in full swing.

The festival took the rest of the country by storm also.

While this is the first year of Cruinniú na Cásca, it’s expected it will become an annual event.

In case you haven’t noticed palm oil has made its way into everything now including your daily bread. It is difficult to get away from unless you have the time to examine every label on every purchase. I think that having it wash up on beaches in a raw form gives an opportunity to people to examine the substance and decide if you want it in your diet. It does actually smell like diesel.

Also the amount of Orangutan carnage caused by felling their natural habitat to manufacture Palm Oil criminal. Can they not use a substitute kinder to nature. It is needlessly put into products that could do without it. Even M&S guilty.

And it is death to your arteries. As well as the environment given how much rainforest has been slashed and burned to make way for its production. Interestingly, nearly every “healthy” spread is full of it, except butter which of course we’re told is unhealthy despite the fact we’ve been eating it since God was a boy.

Found one of these on the shore in Achill last year – a ball about 45cm diameter.
Had a notion it might be ambergris, but it was just fat. Gross!
My brother dragged it up to the house, and left it in the garden where it was gradually rained into mush!
