'Ten seconds of embarrassment can save your life': Brian Kennedy on cancer and love

The singer has spoken out about his life since being diagnosed with rectal cancer.

BRIAN KENNEDY HAS opened up about how his life has changed since being diagnosed with rectal cancer.

Speaking on TV3′s Elaine, Kennedy urged men to not let embarrassment stop them from getting regular check-ups.

The singer, who turned 50 last year, told Elaine he recently received a letter from a man that had the title ‘You have saved my life’.

“For 10 seconds of embarrassment it can alter your life. This guy had a bunch a kids, he found out [he had cancer], he was operated on, he’s in great shape. Already from one interview that I gave someone could see this and decided to go to the GP.

“[Men] don’t seem to have the language. We’re great at telling the filthy jokes and all of that but when it comes to serious subjects, when it comes to below the belt, it’s all like, ‘Oh no, I’m not going to the GP and dropping the pants’.”

Treatment

The former Eurovision hopeful also said his love life hasn’t suffered since his treatment.

“It’s a wee bit a conversation killer when you suddenly have to start talking about cancer, in particular rectal cancer…

“I’ve always had a very, very high sex drive since I was very young and that is one of the worries about having chemo or radiation as that can kill that kind of stuff. And let me tell you it is the opposite.”

Kennedy said he is still receiving treatment and his tumour is shrinking, but he hasn’t been given the all-clear yet.

Stay fit and strong Brian and I hope you get the all clear very soon.
I was so sad and sorry when I heard your brother Bap died. My mother passed away just over a month ago and in her memory all I can do is to encourage people to see their GP if they are worried about a change in their health.
    Good health to you Brian.

…. up the ass is just to check the prostate , and while not 100% reliable , psa blood tests are also required .
So is a camera up (colonoscopy) or a cam down (gastroscope) required to examine further and take a biopsy if required ?
Just asking as unsure what test Brian had to diagnose .

Brian is one of the good guys, not a fan of his music, but he has an amazing voice.

Now, we need to talk about this Elaine on TV3 show. Before Brian came on, all I could see was two women who couldn’t tell you the time of day because of how obsessed they were with projecting their insecurities about being fat (their words, not mine), and slim-shaming other women. Bitching about this non-fat female celebrity, and that non-fat female celebrity. No mention of men mind, just slagging the sh** out of other women. It’s quite possibly the most trashy show that has ever aired on Irish television. The only person who came out of it looking good was the healthy looking panelist in denim who visibly couldn’t believe what she was hearing, and wondered why she was there in the first place.
