THE FORMER BANK of Ireland headquarters on Dublin’s Lower Baggot Street has today got another new tenant.

Global medical company Shire is moving into 76,000 sq. ft of office space at Miesian Plaza.

It’s expected that about 300 employees of the company will be based in the south inner-city site by the end of June as the company moves from its current headquarters in Citywest.

As well as the service centre now on Baggot Street, the company also runs a manufacturing facility at Piercetown in Meath.

The Miesian Plaza site is being redeveloped after the departure of its former tenants and in total comprises 218,724 sq.ft. of office space.

The buildings were mostly vacated in 2008 and were bought by businessman Larry Goodman in 2012.

The buildings were then redesigned by architects Scott Tallon Walker.

The Department of Health is another one of the new tenants of the redeveloped building as part of its move away from Hawkins House.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor were among those who were at Miesian Plaza this morning for the opening of Shire’s new headquarters.

Shire’s products are available in more than 100 countries and specifically serve customers with rare diseases.

    That’s some serious investment by Shire – €400 million in a manufacturing plant in Meath and hundreds of jobs in their Dublin offices.

    I have a feeling when Leo takes over Mary Mitchell O’Connor will be the first on his list in the reshuffle.

    @Fred Jensen: Don’t be so cynical. Mary Mitchell O’Connor was personally responsible not only for that company being formed, but for it moving to Ireland and she interviewed every member of staff herself. Sure, she’s only great.

    Mary Mitchell O’Connor another school teacher whose only contribution to the Irish people was making us all laugh when she drove her Hyndai down the steps at Leinster house! ha ha!

    @HoneySmuggler617: no grants.

    Shire are merely moving from one Dublin location to another.

    No grants available anymore to set up in Dublin.
