AN IRISHMAN WAS rushed to hospital in Lisbon after being repeatedly stabbed in a popular Algarve tourist resort.
The victim was reportedly attacked by two men in Praia da Rocha, near Portimao, just after 5am on Sunday.
He was taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to São José Hospital in the Portuguese capital because of the severity of his injuries.
Police are investigating the incident and looking for the attackers. They have made no official comment but are understood to be treating the incident as an attempted homicide.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is aware of the case and ”is providing consular assistance to the family”.
Praia da Rocha is second only to Algarve’s other resort of Albufeira in terms of tourist numbers.

I was in albuifeira a couple years ago and found it dog rough. The Moroccans seemed to be running the main strip while the police were turning a blind eye. They would slice you as quick as look at you. Id never go back
@kyle o Rourke: Yea thought the same. The strip was for stags, hens and piss ups… I have heard other parts of Albuiferia and the Algarve are Beautiful and relaxed however

@Ciarán FitzGerald: not too far from Albuiferia is a lovely relaxed spot called Alvor, no nightclubs and a fantastic beach, people are lovely there too.
@kyle o Rourke: what a load off bull i go nearly every year and and the worst i see is the odd jypsi selling there dodgy goods plus the guarda manisapale are at every corner armed to the teeth. Reckon its one of those freak events that can happen anywhere.
@Darren Noel Heenan: maybe they have got a grasp on it recently Darren but when I was there that was very much the case.

@Leo Latorre: No it’s not that rough. The old town is a lovely spot to go for a meal or a drink. The strip is your typical bars and clubs.
@Leo Latorre: that was about 4 or 5 years ago Leo. Darren reckons it’s not but the headline says otherwise
@Damocles: the Portuguese police believe it was her ex-boyfriend who hired someone to throw acid on her and are actively looking for him, dreadful and disgusting act but not believed to be a random attack. I have friends who live there and have spent many holidays there was there only last year, it really is a lovely place.
@molly coddled: ah, alvor. stayed there. place was alright. the local irish bar was funny. food was excellent. and to top it all off, a top shelf magazine was doing photo shoots in the surf.
@kyle o Rourke: This was praia da Rocha Kyle, not Albufeira. Usually quiet relaxed there, can be busy at night in the summer, but a nice family spot all the same. This type of incident would be unusual for praia da Rocha.
@kyle o Rourke: The East part of the Algarve is so much better. The problem is that everybody only search for the noise busy Albufeira and Praia da Rocha!
Hope he’ll be okay. Was there on holidays and it seemed lovely but you never know what a place is like at time of night.
This happens everywhere , I go to this area 3-4 times a year and have never ever seen any trouble.. its a wonderful place ,great value and people are so friendly .. won’t deter me from returning

That is awful! I was in Praia da Rocha a few times and always thought it was a lovely safe spot. I hope he has a full recovery.

He’s probably a drug dealer and the stabbing probably organised too. Two men don’t just wonder down a beach armed with knifes and decide to atack a tourist.
@David Harries: could have been a violent mugging. Other sources suggest there was an altercation in a night club earlier though.

@David Harries: To answer your question to your insensitive and mindless comment I know this because the man is my Brother in law so I know what has happened and it sure as hell isn’t your version of events. Try to engage your brain before you jump to conclusions without knowing the facts.

May I say , to tranquilise you and family, that the hospital where he is in Lisbon has excellent doctors , he is in good hands. @David Harries: would you like to expand on your statement how a man from Ireland on his First night in the area for a friends stag could be involved in selling drugs and as a result viciously mugged, stabbed and left fighting for his life. Or what the error of his ways are from being the victim of a mugging ? Id love to know your insight since you seem to think you are right regardless.
@Patrick Cronin: There’s no point in arguing Patrick its very common to see people comforting themselves when they read something unsettling by convincing themselves this kind of thing only happens to people involved in the criminal world. its a kind of coping mechanism and something you’ll see very regularly when reading comments on this site. Whatever keeps them from having mental breakdowns i suppose.
@Patrick Cronin: I wouldn’t pay any heed to David Harris he’s just trying to deflect from his own seedy deeds as sexual abuser of horses.
I don’t have any evidence to support this claim much like his claims that your brother in law is a drug dealer, but I will say this; given that he’s using a picture of a horse to represent himself it clearly shows he has an unhealthy obsession with horses. Much like his assertion that stabbings only happen in organised drug hits, which he presents no evidence to support and contrary to the abundance of evidence that the majority of drug hits are carried out with a gun, I am asserting that only people who sexually abuse horses use pictures of horses as their profile pictures.
Also given that the horse is looking to its left in the picture, we can establish that it is in fact a male horse and David Harries is a taker. Again I have no evidence to support this claim, but as this is the internet I am entitled to present it as fact and add more tarnish as David’s reputation which is already tarnished from a lifetime of acting in a manner considered to be less than human in front of his peers.
@Darren Tully: Darren your welcome but my word you are verry rood having sex with a horse etc is that possible you seem to be quite up on the subject of beasteality cant see what’s in your pic but I’m guessing your a lesbian. So drug dealers only use guns well thanks for that info I didn’t realise that but maybe they were new to the buisness and saving up for a gun I don’t know anyway I have to cut this short the warden wants me to handover my phone maybe we can chat another time

Stayed at the Praia da Rocha appts a few years back, what a kip, would never go back,I witnessed drug dealing, weapons dealing on the stretch nightly, Gangs fighting in appartments, it might have changed in recent years, I dont know..
Try the best Algarve: Altura, Monte Gordo, Praia Verde, Manta Rota, Santa Luzia, Tavira these place yes nice, quiet, with long beaches where you can walk and relax.
The other outlets are saying it was mugging and the man was stabbed in the arm
We were in Albufeira earlier this year and loved it. Except for the Strip. It was off season when we were there. I certainly wouldn’t go near the Strip in the high season.
Poor lad hope he pulls through & makes a full recovery. Carvóeiro is a very pleasant spot in the algarve, lovely.
