THE FOUNDER OF a now-defunct breast implant company has been released on bail following his arrest in France yesterday.
Jean-Claude Mas faces charges of causing bodily harm arising from the breast implant scandal which has spread to several countries, including Ireland.
Poly Implant Prothese, PIP, was found to have made some of its implants out of industrial-grade silicon instead of medical-grade silicon and women who have the implants have been warned that they may be more likely to split or rupture.
The New York Times reports that Mas was released today on $131,000 bail.
Concerns had been raised over a possible link between the breast implants and cancer, but French health authorities investigating the health risks of the PIP implants said that no such link had been found. They recommend the implants’ removal as a precaution over the risk of them leaking.
The Irish Medicines Board has said it contacted plastic surgery clinics in Ireland in March 2010 to recall the affected implants and advised them to contact relevant patients and advise them of the issue. Any patients who are concerned about their implants should contact their surgeon.

That man did wrong…but why will anyone walk around with plastic inside ur own body just to look good…..yes a woman get a bit of confidence with a nice body but is it worth the risk….
did you ever think of somebody who might be recovering from breast cancer who want corrective surgery
Because, like me, some of these women have had breast cancer and a mastectomy and have had reconstructive surgery. Is that a valid enough reason?
