Ten more victims of Monday's attack in Manchester have now been named

Thousands came together at Albert Square in the city last night to mourn the 22 people who lost their lives in Monday’s bomb attack.

TEN MORE VICTIMS of the bombing at the Manchester Arena on Monday night have been named as the city comes to terms with the tragedy inflicted upon it.

22 people lost their lives and 59 people were hospitalised when suicide attacker Salman Abedi detonated his explosive device in the foyer of the arena in the aftermath of an Ariana Grande concert.

Manchester police say they “are now confident that we know who all the people are who have sadly lost their lives in the attack at the Manchester Arena”.

We have made contact with all of the families and our specially trained officers are supporting them.

However, the victims will not be formally identified until all forensic post mortems have taken place, which is likely to be another four or five days.

“After this we will be in a position to formally name the victims with guidance from the Coroner,” a spokesperson for the force said.

Victims identified

Greater Manchester Police have released a statement on behalf of Michelle Kiss (45), who is confirmed as the 13th victim of the attack.

Michelle Kiss Michelle Kiss Kiss family Kiss family

The statement said:

“Michelle Kiss was a loving wife to Tony, mother to Dylan, Elliot and Millie, as well as daughter to Mick and Christine and sister to Nichola.

“Family was her life and we are all obviously devastated by her loss. She has been taken away from us, and all that love her, in the most traumatic way imaginable.

“We hope to draw from the courage and strength she showed in her life to get through this extremely difficult time.”

This afternoon, the 11th and 12th victims of Monday’s attack were identified.

They are 51-year-old Jane Tweddle, who had arrived at the Manchester Arena to collect a friend’s daughter from the concert, and 14-year-old Nell Jones, who had attended the concert on crutches but had left them behind before entering the arena.

Jane Tweddle, a mother-of-three, had been a receptionist at South Shore Academy in Blackpool.

“Jane was a truly wonderful friend and colleague to all of us at South Shore Academy. As our receptionist, she was in many ways the public face of the school and she represented us amazingly in this role,” principal Jane Bailey said this afternoon.

Russell Hayward, boyfriend of Martyn Hett (29), has confirmed that Martyn has been confirmed to have died.

“We got the news last night that our wonderful, iconic and beautiful Martyn didn’t survive. He left this world exactly how he lived, centre of attention,” Russell tweeted this morning.

Husband and wife Angelika (40) and Marcin Klis (42), Polish citizens who had been waiting to collect their daughters at the concert’s end, have also been confirmed dead.

Their daughter Alex had posted a photo of the couple taken before the concert to Facebook in an appeal for any information as to their whereabouts. Their deaths have now been confirmed by the Polish embassy in London, according to The Guardian.

Earlier this morning, four other victims were named: Kelly Brewster (32, who reportedly shielded her young niece from the blast), 45-year-old Alison Howe and 47-year-old Lisa Lees (both mothers who had been waiting to pick up their children, who survived the attack), and 15-year-old Olivia Campbell.

13 of those who died have yet to be officially identified.

Olivia’s mother confirmed her death at the arena just hours after making an impassioned plea for information as to her daughter’s whereabouts in the aftermath of the horrific attack.

Lisa Lees’ brother, Lee Hunter, confirmed her passing in a Facebook post saying simply: “For those who don’t know Lisa is gone but never ever forgotten, I love you Lisa I’ll miss you so much.”

Alison Howe’s stepson Jordan, who had earlier been frantically combing Manchester’s hospitals in an attempt to locate her, also confirmed on Facebook that she had died in the blast.

“They took a caring beautiful mum and step mother away from us all. She was amazing to us all,” he said.

The four latest victims have been added to the names of Saffie Rose Roussos (8), Georgina Callander (18), and John Atkinson (28), who were named yesterday.

Last night UK prime minister Theresa May raised the terror threat in Britain to ‘Critical’, the highest it has been for a decade, indicating a terror attack is expected imminently.

Meanwhile, Manchester has been in mourning, with a vigil held at Albert Square in the city to commemorate the victims suggesting that there is ‘no place for hatred in our Manchester.

In Ireland, separate books of condolence have been opened across the country for those who may wish to pay their respects to the victims, in:

  • Clare – Áras Contae an Chláir, Ennis (from 9am)
  • Dublin – the Mansion House, Dawson Street (from 10am)
  • Cork – County Hall (from 10am)
  • Belfast – City Hall (from 8.30am)
  • Dundalk – Town Hall
  • Drogheda – The Tholsel, West Street

The thing is we never hear more about the individual victims in Syria ( 68 children murdered in attack on bus recently). It is only right and proper that we mourn the Manchester dead. But let us never forget the reactions and counter reactions that lead to the tragic loss of all these lives. The mishmash that is the Middle East is continually messed with by the economically powerful countries wanting to control the resources of the area. Just as there can be no justification for what happened in Manchester there can also be no justification for the disaster that is Syria.

But fine, if you want to play, you go ahead and tot up this month’s Iraqi deaths caused by coalition forces versus the Iraqi deaths caused by Muslims and let’s have a wee compare.

We can also take a look at how many Muslims white British and other Europeans have killed this month versus how many British and Europeans have been killed by Muslims and compare those numbers too if it tickles your fancy.

When bombings and deaths of innocent people were commonplace on these islands, it often fell to John Hume to provide coherence. He had two comments which bear repitition. In the world of “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” we all end up blind and toothless. In looking for responses, we should not be led by the “politics of the last atrocity” as that places power in the control of the perpetrators of that atrocity.

@Greg Blake: It is understandable that people would like all terrorism “stopped cold”. There is however no military option that delivers that outcome. The thinking of John Hume (and Ghandi) prevailed in the long term. The emotive response of targeting and making an example of some people in communities suspected of sheltering terrorists is what drove the Black & Tans, the 1916 executions, interment (several times) and Bloody Sundays (both). If you don’t recall how those tactics worked out, it would be worth your while checking out some Irish history.

The actorcities were terrible and nonproductive for all sides, making their goals less achievable. But being specific goals, the realisation dawned that they can be approximated with mutual compromise, over time.
There is no goal to Jihad, other than the complete destruction of all non believers. There is no method for them to achieve this other than total war. They must feel they could win that with god on board and on their side. It does not lend itself to detente, it can only be wiped out and that must be led the majority of muslims who dont want to be dragged into such a war. Its time for them to step up.

We will hear no doubt a lot in the coming days and weeks a lot about Islamophobia, well, a phobia is an irrational fear, is it irrational to be afraid of a seventh century cult that has a stated aim to conquer the globe and has been evicted from Europe on several occasions previously due to its incompatibility with the indigenous people here? a people who evolved to enjoy stringed music, alcohol and a free interaction with the opposite sex, all things and more that militant Islam would take from us.
Is it rational to ignore the murderous precedence set by Islam in its waves of conquest? Is it unreasonable to assume that human beings are not evolving in fact and are as they always were..tribal creatures?
It is worthy of note that the communists/liberals who so detest the Christian ethos that formed Europe and helped to defeat their communist utopia last time around have no word to describe the irrational fear of traditional Christian Europe. Is it because they view Islamists as unwitting foot soldiers, ready to strike fear into the native societies and leaving them malleable to whatever the State must do to protect them.
So where do we see this rounded condemnation of Europhobia or Christophobia, or do hurt feelings trump dead bodies?
Each year it grows incrementally worse, in a decade or so we will have Yugoslavia in all our countries.

The evil West are of a class that never represented us, the same who went to war with China in order to make its population drug addicts and happily stuck Boer women and children in concentration camps, did not represented the average Englishman of the time, but, that same class sees profit in human misery and war is behind this surge of extremists into the West aided as they were 100 years in Russia, where the greatest crimes against humanity were perpetrated,by their useful idiot lapdogs on the Left, those Neanderthals who think they are advancing humanity by destroying the Nation state, culture, heritage and rewriting history.

@CeannairBlue: Disgusting comment. Mr Parry spoke about loss. Families of victims of terrorism owe nobody the right to reconcile.

@Diarmuid: No, it is not a disgusting comment.

Mr Parry works tirelessly for peace and reconciliation. He is worth 20 of an isiot like you who exists only to troll and cause trouble.

I suggest you contact Mr Parry and tell him that he “has no right to reconcile” with anyone. He would disagree.

@Diarmuid: Whats disgusting is you using multiple identical accounts to use this tragedy to push your little agenda before the bodies of the child victims were even cold yesterday.

Can we take it that the 8th ‘diarmuid’ account you were using yesterday….

was banned for the filth comments you were posting, and you have now switched to your 9th ‘diarmuid’ account (the third one you set up at the same time in march 2017 for trolling this site), i.e this one….

    @Noel:

    Get an ‘insight’ into it?

You need look no further than the dozens of hate speech comments right here on the Journal, and most media, to find your ‘insight’.

Neuroscience research has established that hate speech in sufficient quantity induces Psychopathic responses toward the targeted ‘outgroup’. (See the work of Dr David Eagleman and others.)

That is exactly what the Jihadis are doing to brainwash bombers…

And exactly what western media is also doing, and permitting on their public comment pages…

It’s exactly what the Nazis did in the 1930s, and what Trump and his supporters are doing in the US.

@Mike Hall: I agree with your comments on Western media, I can almost feel the brain cells dying off while watching some of the scare mongering on their, their has to be a way of introducing some rational thinking to these people, their is enough killing innocent people, even if the insight into their thinking drew a blank I would like to see it myself not just what I see on the western news as I can’t figure out how someone can cause so much pain and destruction to innocent people

What is infuriating is that attacker was known to authorities and had some link to terrorism before. Then he went to Libya on holidays forth and back like it was Magaluf or Algarve. It’s total fail of British police services or maybe more likely of judicial system that had police’s hands tied – he should have been locked up and deported and dumped in the middle of desert or ocean in an expedited way – the first traces of terrorism surfaced. Look at his family now – instead of kick out of the country they’ll get identity and protection that cost taxpayers thousands a month. Joke all together all this.

Disgusted by these events and those that support such actions.
If ‘take over the world’ and ‘impose our belief system on everyone ‘is their goal, they are simply a non-starter.
If they’ve specific other demands, let’s hear them if they have any basis in reason or reality. Words are more welcome than evil atrocities.

@alphanautica: most likely disaffected teens with mental health problems, who don’t fit in with the “normal” lifestyle, looking for a way out and to make a name for themselves at the same time.
I believe if the media highlighted these individuals gay relationships and their sexual dysfunction, it might make them think twice about hitting the headlines.

It might be simplistic but would it be an idea to rename the perpetrators of these killings “coward bombers” to see what what effect it might have?
Would you want to be identified in such a way forever more after the event?

@Declan Murphy: then you should be held accountable for the 2011 Norwegian terrorist attack that killed 92 people, commited by Anders Behring Breivik (calls himself the Christian crusader) who killed in the name of Christianity. Are you responsible for all the children raped by priests ? Or the murder of babies by nuns ??? Don’t even get me started on the IRA.
