The stolen tabernacle Garda Press Office

'Valuable' tabernacle stolen from Dublin church

Gardaí are appealing for information after the tabernacle was stolen from a Catholic church in Killester yesterday afternoon.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for information after a valuable tabernacle was stolen from a Catholic church in Dublin.

The tabernacle – the box in which the Eucharist is stored in churches – was stolen from St Brigid’s Church in Killester on Dublin’s northside yesterday afternoon between 12 noon and 3pm. The church had been open to the public at the time.

The tabernacle had been in the church for more than 50 years. It is described as having a “very distinctive” Celtic design on the front and the two sides, and has double doors.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Gardaí at Raheny at 01-666 4333, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Religious relics stolen from an abbey in Tipperary last year were retrieved earlier this month following a garda operation. The relics, which were said to contain a fragment of the ‘True Cross’ on which Jesus was crucified, had been stolen in November.

Chickpeas are the devil’s work. There are only two good recipes. One is hummus. The other is, open, drain, pour into composter.
