Theresa May: 'The attackers' identities are known and will be released'

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has called on Theresa May to resign as Prime Minister because of cuts in police numbers.

UK PRIME MINISTER Theresa May has said that all three of the attackers have been identified and their identities will be released later on.

She gave an update following Saturday’s terror attack. Here’s the latest:

  • Attackers have been identified – one attacker used to live in Dublin
  • Eleven people have been arrested following searches at two premises
  • The UK’s national terror threat level remains at ‘severe’ – which means an attack is highly likely
  • Additional security measures have been put in place

May said that the plans in place in the event of a terrorist attack “undoubtedly saved many lives”.

The heroism of officers both on and off duty was truly extraordinary.

“We thank them.”

In her statement yesterday, May said that security and intelligence agencies and police had disrupted five credible plots since the Westminster attack in March and that “defeating this ideology is one of the great challenges of our time”.

Police force

The string of attacks that have claimed 34 lives in less than three months has sparked a tough debate about Britain’s counter-terror strategy and is the main topic of conversation in the run up to the country’s election campaign.

Jeremy Corbyn has joined calls for Theresa May to resign in the wake of recent terror attacks.

The Labour leader said that May ‘presided over’ cuts to police staff when she was Home Secretary and said that ‘we do have a problem now because of the cut to police numbers’.

Government figures show the number of police officers has fallen from 146,030 officers in 2010 to 126,766 in 2016 – the number of armed officers has dropped from 6,976 to 5,639 in the same time.

David Cameron’s former aide Steve Hilton has also called for May to resign:

May, meanwhile, promised to longer jail terms for terrorism offences, even minor ones, and said internet companies should deny extremism a place in which to breed.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that resources would be allocated to combat terrorist content the social media platform.

Other proposals floated in the British press include electronically tagging or even interning jihadists on watch lists, requiring proof of ID for unregistered SIM cards for mobile phones, and police background checks for people who want to rent a car immediately.

Voting begins in the UK election this Thursday.

So many articles , and the common motivating factor hardly gets mentioned. They have been successful. They seem to have created fear of even mentioning the name. It’s almost like Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter. And yet, I’m sure most people that couldn’t guess the names of the attackers, or where in the UK they lived (although there are a few hotspots). You couldn’t be certain there country of origin, or if born in the U.K., their parents country of origin. But with almost 100% accuracy you can guess their religion.

@TeaRex: you are correct, that’s why I said hardly. In that speech it was mentioned once (Unless I misread the transcription). In this journal article it doesn’t appear at all. In so many articles people bend over backwards to avoid saying it. Indeed we say many articles purely on why we shouldn’t mention Islam in relation to it. Even though the terrorist shout their gods name. Even though Isis have specifically said their primary motivation is that we are infidels.

@Red Marauder: when you say interpret the Quran in harsh ways, let me correct your English. Really what you mean is they interpret it literally. They take what’s written as it is. All of it. They read it all and truly believe every word of it to be the word of god. The warmongering parts and all. Don’t get me wrong, the bible is exactly the same. Thankfully most Christians and Muslims have convinced themselves that the books representing the god of Abraham are all love and peace. However, if a book which you base your life on requires you to ignore huge parts merely just to live like a normal person, then surely there is a problem?

It seems the more Muslims a country has the more frequent the attacks are. We will be attached tho not as frequently as the UK as they have a much higher population of Muslims. Muslim communities need to address the extremist elements in their own communities. I actually don’t see this happening, all we see are Muslim groups looking to portray Muslims as victims.

It seems that one of the terrorists lived temporarily on the south side of Dublin but that does not necessarily mean that his temporary stay here had anything to do, causally or circumstantially, with the cowardly and vicious attacks terrorist attacks in London.

We need a lot more facts and information.

ISIS wants to provoke the West into a major conflict with all of Islam. The strategy is to engender mutual fear and hate.

Western society has a choice. Succumb to fear and hate or not to permit ISIS to cause violent division.

Mutual,p tolerance is the better approach and narrow the conflict to the actual pereitrstors and supporters of terrorist attack.

Let us hold on to Western enlightenment and Western rational method.

@lavbeer: sharia law has no place at all in any Western society. It is a product of fundamentalism. It causes division within civil society and the shared civic space.

    Some significant points:-

    1. No guns available.
    2. No explosives.
    3. 3 terrorists dead within 3 minutes.
    4. Great and efficient response from first responders.
    5. Great social solidarity in the aftermath.
    6. Lots of volunteers for hospitals and to attend at sites to treat victims.

London and its people will endure as Manchester and its people have and will endure.

@Michael Maher: Again… the Iraq war didn’t create jihadism. Not sure how much longer this lie will be propagated.

There was a jihad against the Christians living in East Timor by Islamist factions, and Islamist groups in Indonesia were hunting down and killing those they deemed ‘un-Islamic’ – both before any invasion of Iraq.

You’ve got to stop kidding yourself into thinking that this terrorism didn’t exist before foreign intervention in the ME. It’s a demonstrably false idea and there are many, many examples that illustrate this.

@Michael Maher: “Saddam and Gadaffi as bad as they were they kept some sort of control over the region.”

The former invaded or annexed his neighbours on multiple occasions, carried out a genocide, and both of them supported and harboured jihadist networks in their own countries at some point during their regimes.

How is that ‘control’? These were madmen.

You’ll understand why I thought this was what you were implying, as you said the British Labour party “caused all this terrorism”. They certainly didn’t cause all the terrorism – my point being that there were plenty of Islamist nutcases carrying out attacks on infidel prior to the 2003 invasion.
