Warm spell comes to an abrupt end as rain and lower temperatures forecast for weekend

This isn’t ideal weekend weather.

THE NATION HAD a good run but it looks like the spell of lovely weather is over for now as showers and changeable conditions are expected over the next week.

While temperatures should stay between 16 and 19 degrees over the weekend, forecasters at Met Éireann have predicted that there will be scattered rain and and blustery conditions for most parts of the country.

However, there is good news as the sweltering temperatures at night should subside from tonight. It should between 9 and 12 degrees overnight.

A forecaster said: “Generally changeable conditions into next week. Saturday night will be dry in most places under clear spells in mainly light to moderate westerly breezes.

“Sunday will be a mostly dry day apart from isolated drizzle patches near the Atlantic coastal fringes. A cloudier day than Saturday with locally misty conditions at first, but there will be some limited sunshine during the afternoon. Top temperatures ranging 14 to 19 degrees in slack winds. Rain is likely to move in from the Atlantic overnight.”

It’s a far cry from the weather of earlier this week which saw the mercury creep up to 29 degrees.

It’s too hot we moan. It’s too wet we moan. It could be nicer we say. It could be worse we say. Joys of being Irish!

Great news. People on holiday abroad will be posting en masse on Facebook to tell us how hot it is where they are.
