Nah, for their ‘creativity’ they’ll be invited to join more boards. Don’t be surprised if you see some of them become ‘Special Advisors’ to some politicians!

So now where do I give to charity, Our church used to collect toys for the poor in the limerick clare area, the church is St Nicholas and the gifts were collected on or near the feast if St Nicholas in december . must check if they are still doing it. Priest might get a shock when he sees me though.

Yes under our own Irish law, giving it back would be the solution. In the days under Brehon Law, the people would sit outside their office and fast until it was given back- so that all those in the community would see the thieves and shame them into returning the stolen goods. Sadly people like these have no shame or conscience and feel entitled to it. The old god complex.

Katie, a friend of mine who has a special needs child was involved in collecting for the special Olympics, her time and efforts for free. It sickened me to her that the CEO of the special Olympics ( a presidential candidate)was getting a salary of over €200k. It is hard to give to charity when monies are wasted like that. I know that times have changed but in a bygone era Ladies did that kind of work for free, and today many people give their time for free in many of the charity shops.

The wider issue is far deeper and more disturbing than simply the use of donated funds to line the pockets of executives who are already in receipt of what many would term generous salaries. It is just a further example of the incredible arrogance of those at the forefront of Irish society. Anyone appointed to the board of a national institution such as CRC should be above reproach. The lack of proper moral judgement displayed by these people in presiding over the distribution of funds collected from the general public who contributed in good faith is to say the least, staggering.

As a nation we need to demand higher standards fro those whom we place in positions of trust and power. If we allow people who lack basic judgement in right and wrong to continually be placed in positions of responsibility then we will always wallow in the never ending stream of scandalous corruption that emerges week after week. When future historians look at this period they will point to the immorality of our decision makers as being reflective of our society as a whole. What fools we are to allow such a morally bankrupt bunch of people emerge as at the forefront of our society. As a society we need to look at ourselves before criticise. When somebody, anybody asks for your endorsement or vote for any position be it from the chairperson of the local Tidy Towns to the office of Taoiseach the first question we must ask ourselves is,” are they morally fit to deserve my endorsement ?” Change starts at the bottom from up, we have to the power change society but have we the courage?

Keith, I couldn’t disagree with you more, I personally would never be able to look my family in the eye again if I was taking money which should be going to help people in need. Very many people have a strong moral compass and I can tell you for a certainty that I personally would never even have to think about that. It simply would never enter my head to take something that is morally not mine and to be honest, if that’s your opinion of people, you are looking at things from a very cynical standpoint.

What Keith is saying is that this type of behaviour is endemic in the Irish establishment. You know, those people you people constantly elect to represent your interests. These tales of corruption coming out of the banana republic are never ending.

A charity is a business but cannot make profit. Income normally derived from fundraising, donations & government funding(if applicable). All monies go into the one pot. Then salaries, operating expenses etc are paid out until all expenses met. In a profit-making business, salaries/wages normally account for 70% of overheads & it is no different with a charity. The majority of CEOs working in charities are on a minimum of €100K +

The bedrock of a charity are their volunteers who work tirelessly for free with little recognition because they actually care…
