Primark recalls men's flip-flops - but Irish stores unaffected

The black, blue and khaki flip-flops were on sale in Primark stores between the 4 January and 2 June this year.

PRIMARK IS RECALLING a certain type of men’s flip-flops from the UK and some European stores after discovering they contain a high-amount of a dangerous chemical that breaches safety standards.

The flip-flop model numbers are:

  • Khaki – 02387/07, 08, 09
  • Black – 02387/01, 02, 03
  • Blue – 02387/04, 05, 06

These were on sale in Primark stores between the 4 January 2017 and the 2 June 2017.

A spokesperson for Penneys said that stores in Ireland didn’t sell these model – so the recall doesn’t affect Irish stores.

“The products were only available in the UK and Northern Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Belgium),” a spokesperson said.

A UK Primark spokesperson told the Guardian and the BBC that the chemical in question was chrysene – a chemical commonly used in dark-coloured dyes, but that can have a carcinogenic risk to humans, according to some studies.

In a statement on the company’s website, Primark said:

“It has come to our attention that the footwear product detailed above does not meet the Primark usual high standards for chemical compliance.

We have found levels of a restricted substance in the product in excess of the 1.0 mg/kg requirement.

“With the safety of our customers and respect for the environment at the forefront of our minds we have taken the decision to recall this product and are therefore inviting you to return this item for a full refund.”

If you have purchased any of these types of flip-flops, you can return them to any Primark store to get a full refund; you won’t need to provide proof of purchase.

All the money is going to the Children’s Hospital, though the HSE will deny that.

@Chin Feeyin: primary care has its own budget funding HCPs has always been a nightmare. They should be auditing every package in the country to see if hours are still needed.

Maybe that’s why my father in-law of 90 years of age was refused home help, even though the district nurse put it in as urgently needed

I’m sure Simon Harris with his vast amount of experience in the field of health will sort this out in a flash. We should feel confident that such a giant political figure is top man at the HSE.

That’s very little to spend on home are a year ,that’s ONLY €338 a YEAR ie 0.92cent a DAY!
Meanwhile Ireland spends over €14m a DAY on National Debt servicing,….€583,333 an HOUR!If FG fought to get a better deal from Troika in 2011 as Prof Mody said they could have done then we ‘d have alot more to spend in public services, etc!

I have a friend who is 91, lives alone, and waiting for a home care package. She is vulnerable and at risk. Her extended family helps at random times but she has always been independent and finds it difficut to be in a position to need assistance.
