Irish comedy show Damo and Ivor to hit the big screen

Damo and Ivor first appeared on YouTube back in 2011.

[image alt="90355626_90355626" src="http://cdn.thejournal.ie/media/2017/07/90355626_90355626-296x211.jpg" width="296" height="211" title="" class="alignnone" /end]

IRISH COMEDY SHOW Damo and Ivor is set to hit the big screen in 2018.

The satirical comedy, which first appeared on YouTube and RTÉ’s Republic of Telly back in 2011, is about the lives of identical twin brothers separated not long after birth.

Damo is left to grow up on the streets of north Dublin, while Ivor grows up in a life of wealth and luxury in Dublin’s Foxrock.

Andy Quirke – who plays both northsider Damo and southsider Ivor – will reprise his roles, while Ronan and Rob Burke, who directed the second series of the show will work on the film.

“With a fan base as big as this, I really feel it will break some records. I can’t wait for the fans to come on this next part of the journey,” Quirke said.

The film will see Damo and Ivor embark on an adventure to track down their long-lost brother John Joe.

The Burke directors said:

It is a hilarious script that brings these characters to the big screen in a big way.

“The fans will not be disappointed.”

The film is being supported by the Irish Film Board, RTÉ and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Communion dress in Aldi for €25-€35, good pair of shoes and socks in dunnes for €40, doll her up then with nail paints for a fiver in boots sister about €100 to do something she wants. You’re not going to spend ~€600 on finger food in the local boozer surely are you?

    100%

My daughter decided she believed in evolution at age 12. I asked her if she was doing her confirmation since she didn’t believe in God. A week later she came back and said “yes, I want the money!” At least she was honest.

Not being catholic myself (no religion, never baptised) I taught them to have an open mind and question everything (Their dad is Catholic but only goes to church for weddings, funerals and christenings oh and communion/conformation).

Tbh she was a child, it’s no worse than a child saying “I don’t believe in Santa” then mom or dad saying “if you don’t believe you’ll get no presents” then miraculously the child believes again or at least tells the parent s/he does. I put honesty first, my daughter knows that, that’s why she confides in me instead of pretending and lying.

*when all my kids stopped believing in Santa I let them. I didn’t force it on them. They were all in first class by the time the figured it out.

Not surprising considering over half of these kids were only baptised to get a place in school, communion is then just a nice family day out and the money is great (for the kid). As an atheist I think forced relegion makes a mockery said religion. Case in point with these communion behaviours. You can make people go through the process, you can’t make them believe.

What’s money at the end of the day?
Holy Communion is a hugely important day in the life of a Christian child. A spiritual rite of passage.
Parents will make the sacrifice to have things perfect for the occasion.
Of course atheists and other non religious types will get upset by the ‘Very Notion’ but that’s a non issue really as it has nothing to do with them and they should just keep their beaks out of the business of the Catholic community and focus on their own miserable lives instead.

    Adam Smyth, a fundamentalist Atheist?

Last time i checked a fundamentalist atheist give out from behind a keyboard about secular rights and simply point out the fallacies of religious argument.

I have yet to see one strap a bomb to their chest run into an abortion clinic or a gay Bar screaming Darwin/Dawkins Ackbar !

Fundamentalism is a reversion to literal interpretation of the fundamental beliefs of an ideology or religion. I do not advocate nor can convince myself to believe in the existence of a higher power, because the fundamentals of that belief system are an anathema to any rationalist.

So I fundamentally disagree with religions alleged truth. Big difference between the two.

Adam, the Christian spiritual rite of passage comes from communion and has nothing to do with money or dressing up. Anyone who knows anything about religious teaching would know that you cannot buy your way into heaven and should not take the Lords name in vain. The spin that is being applied regarding first communion and confirmation is un-christian in my view.

Can’t buy your way into heaven? Does that mean the church should refund all those indulgences they sold?

Children should go to church for First Communion in School Uniform. That would finish all the spending and style on the day. Anyway, most of them won’t be back in Church until Confirmation time in 5 or 6 years. This carry on needs to be stopped.

Historically the term had religious connotations but has gradually morphed into the modern generic term which indicates a perceived ideological bias which is not specifically religious.

Most children dont have a clue nor give a hoot what communion and confirmation is about. Im a non denominational Christian and my children wont be making theirs. I didnt baptise them either as you cannot choose a belief system for someone else who has no clue what they are being signed up for. Baptism, communion and confirmation should be kept for when they are older and they truly understand what it was about. Jesus was baptised in his 30′s. I will teach them what I believe to be true but will encourage them to think for themselves and to go out and find their own answers.

Spot on Chris, I’m ex Catholic now non dem Christian also and chose not to go ahead with the catholic sacraments which are non biblical and all about the money anyway. He sat down back of class when they were practising etc and read, coloured etc. He was fine with it, his Dad however was not (my ex) even though he hasn’t seen the inside of a church since his own communion and has no religious beliefs. A lot of hypocrisy with the whole palava surrounding it and also pressure for parents to conform.

wouldn’t it be nice if children were encouraged to use their Communion/Confirmation money to do some good for someone/something – instead of just spending it on themselves, I got a half a crown and gave it to the Cats and Dogs Home (which was in Grand Canal Street at the time) – gave me a really good feeling to think I was helping out.

Not everyone spends crazy money on the first communion. We had one this year, outfit cost €100 (grandparents kindly paid for that) and dinner in a restaurant for the grandparents and godparents only cost another couple of hundred euro. It was still a lovely celebration and a lovely day and no bouncy castles required. If people choose to go OTT and they can afford to do so then good for them. Not my cup of tea (or in our bank balance) but let them enjoy the celebration.
