THE GOVERNMENT IS set to announce details of a major new plan aimed at tackling the unemployment crisis.
The Action Plan for Jobs will aim to create 100,000 new jobs in Ireland by 2016 in a bid to curb the unemployment rate of 14.2 per cent.
The plan is expected to include a range of measures, including a micro-finance loan fund of €100 million over ten years for start-ups and small businesses.
The plan will also include a temporary partial loan guarantee scheme for businesses turned down for loans from their bank.
Unusually for a government initiative, the plan will include targets for delivery for every quarter and will be monitored closely to ensure it meets the targets.
The government has repeatedly emphasised over recent months that its top priority is jobs.
Full details of the plan will be announced by the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste, and Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton this afternoon in Dublin.
The plan comes in what has been a good few weeks for job announcements. Last week, three multinational companies announced the creation of almost 500 jobs at their Irish bases, just days after digital tv provider Sky revealed plans to create 800 new jobs in Dublin.

This job plan will be forgotten in 1 year time and the unemployment rate will be pretty much the same. To sell smoke at long term is a very typical strategy from politicians across Europe.

100000 jobs over 4 years where and even if there is no increase in unemployment it will still leave 350000 unemployed.

Funny but I can feel a referendum in the air
If this government was serious about creating jobs they would tear up their last (anti-growth) budget and start again with a budget that favoured growth in the real economy rather than protecting the interests of the public sector & bank bondholders.

This week: The government does something for the unemployed and commenters still aren’t happy.
As per usual everything the government does is wrong, yet if they don’t do anything that’s wrong too! Best thing is that none of ye have seen the plan yet and still are complaining about it. Forest of whinge comment from last week springs to mind!
Sounds very promising.Yet all their promises came to fuck all.Dont forget the usual smokescreens for the bondholder payouts.Another big payout soon.
What a joke and Another PR stunt! Every other policy being pursued by te government is causing job losses.. ie all the extra taxes and charges etc etc

They wouldn’t know a 5 point plan if it hit them straight in the face.

100000 is a low ambition target. Half that amount will be lost due to closures during the same period. I would like to see Richard Bruton and co challenging themselves to set the target much higher. It is better to set high targets that may not be achieved rather than lower ones that have a good chance of being met.
