It’s time we moved away from being reliant on the Brits. We’ve been at the mercy at their whims too long. We should at Brexit as an opportunity to solidify our relationship with Europe.

@john Appleseed: i agree it is time to get the Brits off our back but we need the unification of our country or else life on this island will be seriously changed for a significant amount of people.
I live in Derry and travel to Donegal daily for work, this is my country,i should be free to live and work anywhere on this Ireland without being impeded by border controls.
British meddling in Ireland has cost us for far too long, let’s get shot of them once and for all.

We’re not pushing them away, the British people voted to leave, it’s the Euro elite who want to punish the British and make it as hard as possible for them to have a soft Brexit. life will carry on either way.

It’s going to be a disaster for the next generation of Brits not that any leavers are thinking about them.

We use English Common law in our musical process, many of our laws are just extensions and amendments to old British laws, our old Irish culture was irrevocably changed during the Penal and famine years to make us more Anglified. So claiming Europe is taking away our culture is like complaining about milk spilt centuries ago.

If and when it happens then maybe I will take a little more notice. There’s no point in worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet. Worrying causes stress, which leads to health problems.

I think Ireland is beginning to realise for the first time what it means to be independent. We have always had the freedom to trade with our neighbour. The only thing that really change after independence was the flag over the GPO . We where still connected by economics, language and culture . Ireland is now dictated by the EU to how it can trade with its neighbour while the UK goes off into the big world . It’s like the UK is saying Ireland you are now the responsibility of Germany its goodbye from here .

@Dec: And remember the time they told us we were owed over 13 billion in tax from apple but our leaders held strong and told them ‘No, apple should not pay more than 1% tax. We will contest that they should ever pay more!’

Oh, and remember when our banks collapsed because of our own developers, investors, politicians and bankers? And after Europe lent us the money so that our entire financial system wont collapse and everyone loses their savings and more, we give out to them for making us pay back the money we borrowed and blame they entire string of events on them! Serves them right!

Or remember when you could only buy 2 types of wine, had a choice of red or white cheddar for cheese, and had to drive around the country on what no other developed country would have called a ‘road’. Then the EU came and funded our roads, infastructure, and boosted trade into overdrive. What were they thinking? We never asked for that!

I’m from Enniskillen. Brexit is going to disproportionately impact Co. Fermanagh despite us overwhelmingly voting against it. It could potentially cut us off from our neighbours in Leitrim, Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan. The towns economy is highly reliant on cross border trade and any sort of change at the border will be disastrous.
Partition has been devastating for the North West of Ireland. Brexit has the potential to reignite some of the old problems that we thought we had left behind.

The day Erneside opened you couldnt get parked with all the southern cars in the carpark. If there is a so called hard brexit then people will adapt and deal with it. This is not a very useful question for an all-Ireland poll. If you live on the south coast and aren’t involved in international trade, the impact of even the hardest form of Brexit may be largely unnoticed on a daily basis. If you live near what might be re-designated an “unapproved road” across the border, have property that spans it, do cross-border business or have family on either side, the impacts of a hard border could be dramatically negative. For those who see the prospect of profits from smuggling, the opportunities of tariff differentials would of course be wonderful.

I think the doomsday scenario for Ireland is if we leave the EU because our incompetent gov effed up our own country a decade ago, the EU saved us and Greece from going bust because it was in their best interests not to have any countries in the EU block go bust. The EU is saving us right now because our utterly useless current bunch of politicians are proving they couldn’t and still can’t run the country properly. Our history with the British is a very complex and thinking / discussing about our history with today’s mind set just makes it worst. Go way way back in history and our links were always there. Like the EU the UK wanted to to make our countries one which did work with Wales and Soctland for most part were at peace. Again it was done a old fashioned way if it were done differently our countries be much better off, cause like it not we share a lot more than what we see / think. Even today the UK flag still as representation for Ireland and this was not for control it like the EU flag we didn’t choose it but there s star there for us.
