@MaryLoonyMcDonald: the story is up. Nothing to suggest its a ‘garda shooting’ at this early stage though!

@MaryLoonyMcDonald: a garda doesn’t have to have shot anyone for GSOC to intervene. What’s stopping somebody being armed and a garda physically tackling them and somebody getting shot as a result? You just automatically presumed that it was a ‘garda shooting’. It’s now being reported as I write that at least one shot was fired by a garda but you didn’t know that when you fired off your big gob. I have serious doubts as to whether you’re a clairvoyant. More like like a busy body with an enormous pie-hole.

This news will do a lot of damage to our image as a tourist friendly place to visit. Does the hotel not have security? Is the place not wall to wall CCTV, and with processes for engaging emergency responses? Being mugged on the streets is bad enough without having to fear for your life in a supposedly secure hotel.

@David Knight: The fact that no one was injured in the incident, shows that what ever procedures they had in place for such an event worked….

@David Knight: did you ever hear of something called a balaclava? CCTV in such a case will hardly be a deterrent.

@David Knight: what’s CCTV going to do? What about some more Gardaí on the streets? And chance we could hire some and cut this ridiculous overtime scam they have going on?

@David Knight: they robbed the hotel not the guests and I’m sure like every other hotel in the country they had procedures which pretty much means hand over the cash & don’t argue! The money is insured and no one was injured which is far more important
