POLICE IN LURGAN are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary and serious assault at a house in the Bramblewood area of Banbridge last night.
Shortly before 10.55pm, the PSNI received reports that three males wearing dark, hooded tops forced their way into the property and attacked three females inside.
A 48-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were later treated in hospital for suspected fractures and other injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
An eight-year-old girl was held down by one of the attackers and was treated for shock afterwards.
“This was a vicious act and I would ask for the public to assist us in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” Detective Inspector Stephen Harvey said.

I’ve always found those with DS to have pretty much the same range of personalities as the rest of the population.Some are great people, some are not.I regularly come in contact adults with the condition though and not so much with kids so that might skew my perception.

Absolutely. What a completely absurd comment to make. You know, there has to be something wrong with her to even say that. I have the priveledge of knowing a few people with downs, and they are the lovliest people I will ever meet. I consider them friends, and they know I am their friends. Having downs is not a disability to them, they are educated, one of my friends is on the Irish team and is a great athlete, they intigrate with everyone. And the nicest thing is they see the nicest thing in people. That yolk over there in the UK would do well to shut up and educate herself.

Regardless of what condition a potential child may or may not have it should be a woman’s choice to decide whether to carry a pregnancy to term. On a side note there is a huge mind bender coming up with gene therapy potentially being used to ‘repair’ genetic defects inutero.Therapy which could also result in future generations not passing the defective gene on, therefor eliminating them from the human gene pool.Now that would really ask the question, ‘Is eugenics really a bad thing’?

Lolo, You’re right, Ellie is wrong in her figures. She has actually underestimated the number. The National Down Syndrome Cytogenetic Register for England and Wales puts the number at 92%. As you know Downs is only diagnosed at a relatively late stage of pregnancy so all those abortions are much later than the average.

Horrible. Worth reflecting though that 90%+ of pregnancies with a diagnosis of Down’s syndrome in Europe are terminated. Fairly consistent with a general atitude that Down’s is not associated with a life worth living.

Actually I’m in favour of ToP for medical reasons, but you need to be pretty specific as to what those reasons are. In India pre-natal gender identification is banned because of the high rate of terminations of females.
My uncle has Downs Syndrome. His reaction would probably be to smile, give her a hug, and ask her if she’s ok. That’s what he usually does when he feels sorry for some poor unfortunate.
We can only blame ourselves as a society for making “stars” out of nobodies, and giving them a platform. Those with serious disabilities should be NUMBER 1 on the list for support and social media campaigns, but no. They are always relegated to the bottom of the list because we don’t speak up for them. Instead, all we get is feminist victim this, and migrant victim that. It’s sickening how we treat real victims of society, and each and every one of us should be ashamed.

I worked with a Brazilian girl before who told me in their culture they believe that children with special needs were sinners in their past lives. My sister has Down Syndrome and my son has Autism. True story.
Lol my son is also on the Autism spectrum and also has a mild intellectual disability. If anybody ever mad any type of disparaging remark toward my beautiful gift of a son they would never get the opportunity to do it again . Period.

The fact is the very same people who have a go at feminists and complain about refugee’s enterying the country and see a Jewish conspiracy behind everything leftwing (type “cultural marxism” site:thejournal.ie into google to see some examples) support the attacks on disabled people under the heading welfare reform. They have this conspiracy theory of disability fakers for which they have no evidence for what is a witch hunt. Those who support austerity politics anywhere are not the allies of disabled people.
You ignorant non-disabled people are a burden to us.
You may come back and say well I give money to charity, we have never wanted charity, one of our key slogans has always been “rights not charity”. The institutions run by charities and the state are where our fellow disabled people are abused, exploited and in the past sterilised and experimented on.
The welfare witchhunt has helped motivate disability hate crimes as has the language built around devalueing impairment, including on this page when they condemn the comments of this reality tv star.
The pro-life movement use us while supporting parties whose economic and social policies marginalise us, they are the enemy denying us our social, political, economic and cultural autonomy at the same time they seek to deny reproductive autonomy for women (and in the case of some impairments disabled people’s reproductive autonomy as well – not that the two groups are mutually exclusive).
That is not to say there are not antagonisms as there always are a long left wing lines but these can be if not resolved, worked around through a combination of self-organisation among disabled people across impairments, and working alongside other progressive groups and causes.
As a disabled person who is on the left I am proud to be part of a tradition of left wing disabled people which includes Antonio Gramsci and Helen Keller.
This happens already though.. Most babies with down syndrome are aborted in the UK.. The stats prove this and the reason for the abortion is the same as what this lunatic is saying
