The most annoying driving habit on Irish motorways has been revealed

Are you guilty of this annoying driving habit?

ACCORDING TO RESEARCH carried out by Easytrip, the habit motorway drivers find most annoying is not using indicators.

The results of the survey reveal that 62 per cent of respondents were most irritated by other motorists who don’t use indicators when driving on the motorway.

The second most annoying habit is driving too slow in the overtaking lane, with 59 per cent of those asked getting wound up by this habit.

The other annoying habits highlight by the survey are:

  • Tailgating (56%)
  • Using mobile phone while driving (55%)
  • Throwing rubbish out the window (43%)
  • Changing lanes too frequently (42%)
  • Not merging correctly from the slip road onto the motorway (40%)
  • Not driving up to the toll plazas correctly (15%)

However, there are differences between male and female drivers when it comes to what gets on our nerves. Of those surveyed, 67 per cent of females drivers said they get frustrated when other motorists drive too fast on the motorway whereas 55 per cent of male drivers said they get frustrated with other motorists driving too slowly in the overtaking lane.

The second habit that frustrates females the most (61 per cent) is motorists who throw rubbish out the window whereas the second most frustrating driving habit according to 54 per cent of male respondents is middle lane hogging.

Commenting on the results, CEO of easytrip Ireland, Colin Delaney said:

Correct use of the motorway is vital for everyone’s safety.  We’ve all heard of the saying that the ‘indicator must have come as an optional extra’ but it’s clearly the number one frustration for many motorists.

No mention of middle lane hoggers? Merge onto motorway, move straight to middle lane, stay there. ( I know it’s probably just m50 with 3 lanes).

And than there are: fog lights on a sunny day, no lights on a overcast, rainy or even foggy day or after sundown.

Correct use of the motorway requires knowledge of the rules of the road in the first place and in second place some road engineering expertise. The most blatant and stupid violations of the rules of the road are: the right of way rules which absolutely no-one and that includes the poor excuses for rule enforcers ( the guards), parking on zebra crossings, parking on corners, bullying with the car as a weapon, ridiculously engineered round about a an junctions, and last but by no means least the absolute ignorance and sheer bad attitude and lack of consideration for other road users especially cyclists and pedestrians.

And where in the rule book does it say that putting on your hazard lights gives you the god given right to double park, illegally park or just block the road?

If people were to drive correctly there would be very traffic issues on the M50.

Putting on your indicator by the way, does not give you the right of way. If you hit another vehicle already in that lane you are cutting into, you are at fault.

@mr non snowflake: you are at fault? According to whom the guy with the biggest mouth? The best lier, the cutest solicitor? When no one knows the rules including the so called law enforcers than the one at fault is always the one with the who is the least assertive.

Overtaking on the Motorway, then pulling right in front of you as they lose their nerve, forcing you to drop back to safe distance. Happens constantly ;-(
