Dart delays after 'medical emergency' on board morning service

The incident happened on the 7.30am service to Malahide.

DART SERVICES IN Dublin are delayed this morning following what Iarnród Éireann described as a “medical emergency” on board one of its services.

A passenger fell ill at Blackrock station this morning and an ambulance was called.

The person, who was travelling on the 7.30am service from Greystones to Malahide, was then removed to hospital and is receiving treatment.

Irish Rail said that there are 25 minute delays to services as a result of the incident in both directions.

When an article states someone fell Ill it could be anything from a stroke , heart attack, cardiac arrest. I doubt a dart was stopped cos someone had a cold. Hope the person is OK. It must be very serious if services were interrupted.

Why would they broadcast what illness the person had just to keep a begrudging person like you happy .if it warranted an ambulance then the person in question may be very Ill. Get a life

Without a more detailed account of what happened it seems a bit extreme to delay trains just because someone feels ill at a railway station.

@Chris Kirk: Something seems to have changed in the last few months whereby this is happening frequently now and it don’t used to. Curious.

Keep your hair on, everybody. People are just wondering what has changed in last few months so that this now happens several times a week when it used to be far less frequent. For example, was it a change work practices, an insurance issue, or something else. Nobody is having a go at the patient.

@kieran: People around the country get ill all the time without having to explain what their condition is, I just don’t see why everyone else has to be inconvenienced. Surely if they took themselves into a railway station they can get help to remove themselves without having to delay trains.

@John Joe. Isn’t it wonderful that we have such considerate transport authorities that can halt transport services because someone gets ill on a railway station. For all we know there might have been other passengers waiting for that train who had important hospital appointments. Have you ever had to rely on public transport to get somewhere only to find that you are delayed, if so you would understand what I am talking about.

@Chris Kirk: Medical emergency, not someone getting ill, there is a difference. Sometimes moving the patient can have a huge detrimental effect. So turfing them off a train to wait for an ambulance just so other people are not “inconvienced” may actually harm or even kill them.

    @Chris Kirk:

As per the article there was a “medical emergency on board”. The key bit of information is the fact that it was ON BOARD. So the person was on the train. I am not a medic but I am guessing that the best thing to do for the person is to keep him on the DART until the medical services arrived. Also, I think that it was a good idea not to have the DART continuing its journey into town. Yes it causes a delay but some of us think this is acceptable. If it was me, a friend of mine or a relative I would hope Irish Rail would do the same thing again

The human brain is a marvellous thing it has a built in filter that affords you the opportunity to think about what you’re about to say and stop you saying it if it leads to you looking a little bit silly. Give it a try you might like it.

@Chris Kirk: what a ridiculous statement Chris.
You are obviously a complete self centred, selfish person.
But thankfully you are completely outnumbered by people who give a dam if somebody has fallen ill in a public place and would help if they could.
You might need one of these people some day so just hope it’s not someone like you that you are relying on.

A work colleague once fainted on the Dart, they slumped down out of their seat on to the floor. Obviously your average passenger hasn’t got a clue what the problem could be so they just hit the emergency button and tell driver to stop the train and to call an ambulance, the driver won’t have a rashers as to the seriousness of the issue. The Dart was stopped for about 20 mins until an ambulance arrived and in this particular case the person was fine.
