CULTURE NIGHT WILL take place next Friday 22 September – one of the best nights on the cultural calendar. It’s a night of dancing, art, family fun, film and performances in towns and cities across Ireland.

We’re giving away three specially curated Culture Night overnight trips to Limerick, Mayo or Wexford (one trip per location), so you can have an extra-special Culture Night away from home.

There’s no need to worry about accommodation or transport – the winners will be brought by Iarnród Éireann to one of the locations.

Airbnb - which is in 500 towns, cities and villages in Ireland – will provide the winners with a €200 voucher so they can book a listing for an overnight stay in Limerick, Mayo or Wexford.

Whether you want to bring a friend, your partner, or your spouse and kids, this is a great way to see how they do Culture Night in a different part of the country.

When the winners arrive at Limerick, Mayo or Wexford, they’ll be presented with their own specially curated Culture Night schedule. But it being Culture Night, there are bound to be lots of surprise events to experience along the way.

Culture Night Highlights in Limerick Mayo and Wexford

Limerick

At the World Recipe Exchange they will explore international culinary traditions of contemporary Limerick: the ingredients, recipes, stories and memories of tastes and smells that we carry with us through our lives. You’re invited to join a special public space event to discover new tastes and share delicious recipes. World Recipe Exchange is based at Ormston House Cultural Resource Centre. This project is supported by the European Cultural Foundation R&D Grant and by Limerick City and County Council.

On Culture Night, there will be guided tours of this unique exhibition of work by two of Ireland’s most important 20th Century artists. The exhibition features 51 works of art, bringing together paintings from private and public collections, many of which would have previously been unavailable for public viewing.

Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT and Fresh Film Festival collaborate to present a feast of film screenings and animation workshops. Fresh Film Festival encourages and support young filmmakers aged 7 – 18 to tell their stories through the medium of moving pictures and will screen a selection of young Irish filmmakers of the year Awards

Mayo (Castlebar)

Bridge Street Bar in Castlebar and Love Castlebar present Bridge Lane Block Party
This is an outdoor block party for all the family with film, fun and refreshments.

Rua is an award-winning café and delicatessen in Castlebar and is all about the good things Irish food has to offer. On Culture Night this year there is an opportunity to sample its ‘Mayo Mezze’ while being treated to some live music. Rua is on the Gnó Mhaigh Eo/Bikes and Boards Castlebar bike tour trail.

The Linenhall’s gallery will host the official opening of an exhibition: On Stagnation, Standing at the Still Point – Niamh O’Doherty. The official opening takes place at 7.30pm and there will also be a series of workshops from 7pm.

Wexford

‘The Seven ages of Man’, is the title of the discovering drama ‘a play in a week’ summer course run by Olga Conway. Her senior students explored the idea through various scenes from different plays linked by the famous Shakespearean speech. The week of creativity culminated in a performance at the Wolfe Stage School in Cork City. The students will bring an abridged version to the National Opera House for Culture Night.

Positive Thoughts Through Performance at Wexford Arts Centre: a performance of positivity, dreams, humour and joy by the young performers of Wexford Artists Community Theatre.

No stranger to the National Opera House is guitarist and vocalist Ronan Morris. This inspirational and talented musician wants to “put a smile on more and more of the gloomy faces of Wexford’s main street”.

Brexit has been an unmitigated disaster for the UK no alternative markets have emerged and the economy is plummeting! Boris did this so himself and his mates could make money but it’s not working! He doesn’t care about the ordinary people and with food banks and no work they will be back to Victorian lifestyles

@PamelaArchitect: What makes you so sure it’s not working? The interesting questions are if it is working then who is it working for and how, where is the money going and who is hiding it.
Now think about British overseas territories and their banking practices.

If (when) he’s goes soon the lying, self-serving, amoral, incompetent dullard will have served less time than May. Not that his replacement is likely to be much of an improvement but they’ll probably command less popular support with the base and see an even bigger Tory defeat come the next election.

@Seamus Quaide: Oh I’m sure there are many honest dedicated people in the party membership. But yes that which rises to the top on the old school tie ticket is not the cream.
