Eight children taken to hospital after school bus crash

None of the children received serious injuries.

EIGHT CHILDREN WERE taken to hospital after a school bus and a van collided in Donegal this morning.

The crash occurred this morning at Carrickmore, between St Johnston and Lifford in Co Donegal at about 8.15am.

There were 20 children on the 53-seater bus at the time. Eight of these were taken to hospital but none of their injuries are thought to have been serious.

The drivers of the van and the bus were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Commenting on the incident, garda inspector Michael Harrison said that it could have been much more serious.

“This could have been a more serious collision than what it was but we’ve had a number of children taken to hospital and thankfully none of them were seriously injured,” he told Highland Radio.

There was about 20 children on the bus at the time and eight of these children have been taken to hospital. They were heading to school in Raphoe.

Harrison said that gardaí had made contact with the school and that all parents should be aware if their children were taken to hospital.

“Thankfully there has been nobody seriously injured,” he said.

A garda spokesperson said that there had been a minor crash this morning and that nobody was seriously injured.

Harrison appealed for witnesses of the crash to come forward with information and said that gardaí were investigating the incident.

Sure keep letting supertrawlers destroy our fish stocks and species. In a few years there’ll be nothing to survey!

Was it one of those toy sharks that you can wind up manually and it swims away ?

@Michael: Basking sharks are harmless plankton-eaters. They just sift these tiny creatures through their gills. This is why they swim with their mouths wide open.

A couple of unconfirmed reports off the SW coast in the last few years. Could be mistaken ID though.

Went shark fishing off Dunmore East. Dad, Uncle, ,cousins. Back in the 70s. No life jackets, small charter boat, choppy seas. caught a ton of Mackrel, ( for bait). No sight of any shark. Uncle couldn’t handle the motion of the boat, puked over the side of the boat, almost loosing his false teeth into the sea. He just about caught then in a handful of vomit. roars of laughter in the boat.
    Oh, the childhood memories.

Shark fin soup…Here is a photo of what happens to a shark caught for its fins, just the fins are taken then the rest is thrown back to sea, alive sometimes where the shark will suffocate and die.

Here’s on for the bucket list. In September get up to Donegal Bay and swim under mackerel shoals where the blue shark are feeding, preferably when the sun is shining. The colours will blow your mind.
