Lady Gaga postpones European leg of her tour due to battle with chronic illness

The singer suffers from fibromyalgia and a statement issued by promoter Live Nation said this left her unable to perform.

US SINGER LADY Gaga has cancelled her European tour, which was due to begin this week.

The six-week European leg of the tour was scheduled to begin on 21 September in Barcelona, Spain and conclude on 28 October in Koln, Germany.

However the singer suffers from fibromyalgia and a statement issued by promoter Live Nation said this left her unable to perform. She had last week said an upcoming Netflix documentary will raise awareness of chronic illness.

“Lady Gaga is suffering from severe physical pain that has impacted her ability to perform. She remains under the care of expert medical professionals who recommended the postponement earlier today. Lady Gaga is devastated that she has to wait to perform for her European fans.

“She plans to spend the next seven weeks proactively working with her doctors to heal from this and past traumas that still affect her daily life, and result in severe physical pain in her body. She wants to give her fans the best version of the show she built for them when the tour resumes.”

In a post to Instagram, the singer said that she has been open about her struggles and would speak in more depth about the illness in time.

I have always been honest about my physical and mental health struggles. Searching for years to get to the bottom of them. It is complicated and difficult to explain, and we are trying to figure it out. As I get stronger and when I feel ready, I will tell my story in more depth, and plan to take this on strongly so I can not only raise awareness, but expand research for others who suffer as I do, so I can help make a difference.I use the word “suffer” not for pity, or attention, and have been disappointed to see people online suggest that I’m being dramatic, making this up, or playing the victim to get out of touring. If you knew me, you would know this couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m a fighter.I use the word suffer not only because trauma and chronic pain have changed my life, but because they are keeping me from living a normal life. They are also keeping me from what I love the most in the world: performing for my fans.

I am looking forward to touring again soon, but I have to be with my doctors right now so I can be strong and perform for you all for the next 60 years or more. I love you so much.

Live Nation says fans should hold onto their existing tickets pending the announcement of additional information once it is available about rescheduled dates. The second North American leg of the tour, due to start on 5 November, is scheduled to continue as planned.

@Sinead Mooney: indeed. It hurts but it makes things better, even if it doesn’t take away the full pain.

@Martin Byrne: I tried an anti inflammatory diet – it didn’t change the pain but I felt better overall – more energy.

Fibromyalgia effects 90% of women and only 10% of men, some doctors dont even believe its an illness, as, husband of a chronic sufferer its real all right and it is life debilitating, more research is needed in this field, and as for the numptys with there smart comments on this subject, I would not wish it even on you.

@Patrick Mangan: This statistic makes me wonder is it hormone related, at least for some. I’ve Interstitial Cystitis which unfortunately seems to be sometimes seen alongside Fibro. IC is also predominantly experienced by women. I’ve made huge strides with an “incurable” condition just by getting my hormones balanced, they were completely out of whack. I absolutely know that there isn’t one solution for everybody, but I just mention this here in case it’s something to be considered.

Fibromyalgia .. just one of many debilitating autoimmune diseases like Celaic, Crohns, Lupus, Ulcerative Colitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Thyroid itis…

Only in the case of Celiac Disease is the trigger known – Gluten .. and this by chance.

Lots of research needed in the field of autoimmune diseases to identify the triggers but more importantly the root causes so that they can be prevented or cured for all who suffer these.

@Neuville-Kepler62F: There’s no clear evidence that fibromyalgia is autoimmune, and the fact that immunosuppressants don’t work on it suggests that it isn’t.

ME/CFS and Fibromylagia and intrinsically linked. Fibromylagia is far more prevalent in women. They did a study in CFS last year analysing the metabolites of patients and they noticed a difference in certain markers between men and women.

CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia are not only one of the lowest scoring diseases in terms of quality of life, but they are also the lowest funded long-term diseases we know of.

It’s not just feeling tired or having pains – it’s a whole myriad of symtoms. Severe cognitive impairment, relentless fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, inflammation, depression and a bunch of others.

I have CFS/ME for over 11 years, and I wrote an article about it on the journal last year. It can hit anyone at anytime, and you’re stuck with it. No cure, no treatment, no empathy.

It is thought that it’s a hypometabolic disorder – the body has an impaired ability to produce energy (converting glucose to energy). The body is in some sort of state of limbo where it’s shut down in a state of defense known as “cell danger response”. This starts off a dominos effect, where the cells of the body and the brain and other organs are underfunctioning.

The Open Medicine Foundation are doing great work, funded entirely by donations from the public. The amount of research they have done over the past 2 years has been nothing short of remarkable. Also Oystein Fluge in Norway has also been doing some great work.

For anyone struggling, keep fighting. I know this illness is tough, but research is improving finally.

    Fire/explosion
    Floods

Poor woman I have fibromyalgia for 31 years but it’s mostly mild illness with me, good diet, controlled exercise and juring the occasional flare up plenty of sleep for a week or forthright gets me back to normal health, unfortunately this strange autoimmune illness seems to target woman more than men & tends to be more severe
